My mind cannot grasp a $500 a month HOA let alone 38k a year in property taxes.

The weather/winters in NYC aren't that bad. If anything, at least in "the city," the height of the summer is worse.

I don't know if I believe you!

Park Slope would probably be the easiest transition

Let's go for most difficult transition. And also biggest overall PIA to live there.

I'm a summer guy so I'm biased but trips during the 4th and middle of winter, summer definitely wins out.  Streets are a mess, transportation delays, etc in winter.  Blech.

For sure.  Should probably be talking about this in terms of square foot though.  $500/month there is probably for a shoebox.

You're next to the ocean. That helps to regulate the winter weather. It's easy to put on a nice coat and scarf and make your way around in the winter. Really hot days in the summer are worse. No AC in the subway stations (plus lots of other places). And the smells. The smell of garbage baking in the sun, waiting to be picked up. The smell of dog piss reducing on the sidewalks, because there is no grass. You have to walk everywhere. Lots of places just aren't equipped to deal with it.

Of course, I could just be talking out of my ass.

*edit: I also just generally prefer relatively colder weather versus 90+ degree heat.

yeah the trash smell might be valid plus the subways. (but being close to the ocean should help regulate summer weather too!)

Don't underestimate the smell of sidewalk dog piss. You might be surprised. But perhaps you're immune to street-level mammalian biological evacuations by now.

I was in NYC for Mother’s Day weekend 2 years ago. I have some friends who live there now so I need to visit there again. I could never live there tho.

I think I could easily live in Manhattan as a bachelor with no kids. However, I'd get paid the same I do living in Texas, but I'd feel quite a bit poorer between living expenses and taxes. Would be harder to build fat stacks.

I think it will be good for you. California has softened you up. You could use some grizzle.

Not sure they have the same quality of avocado toast in NYC as they do on SF
