Now there's the question of if I have the patience to talk to some dipshit over there about how Dina couldn't be less "PITBULL" and/or if it's just Trim 3:16 time.  I probably don't have the patience; I've got beef w/the front desk people just from trying to pick up a package Friday.

What's mumped up is I'm not even looking for any sort of "pit" or any breed at all.  Those are just what keep coming up when I search for dogs that are going to be most suitable for here.

There's a reason for that

Dina's human just emailed me that she can get Dina into foster today, but would wait if I wanted her.  Told her to go ahead and put her in foster and that if I can find a competent person to get the rule relaxed I'd see if Dina can still be retrieved.  :frown:

Don't be guilted into getting Dina, she's so old and broken. Getting a dog is a huge emotional and financial investment, it's okay to be selfish.

It wouldn't be guilt.  Most of the stuff I liked about her for my setup is directly correlated to her being old.  But I'll keep looking and find the sweet spot of not old and not a spaz.  And maybe w/o one drop of pit.

But damn, the way Dina wanted to pak w/the pak head on my jeep was pretty awesome.

I used to have a pit and 8 yrs old is about when they start to break down. Hip displaysia starts to become common around that age which can be expensive to treat.

Pits are great. I had the best experience with mine, good luck in your search!

If you don't mind giving your vacuum a daily workout, get a German Shepherd.

Pro tip:  You should get them as a puppy though.

A full grown German Sheppard would literally take up half of his place.

They've been excluded from every search result I've gotten because "large."

Have you looked at any herding breeds?  Like cattle dogs.  Very awesome and not so big.

Look at some Google images, most are fairly stocky in build for smaller dogs.  I don't think a miniature is required, the regular ones should be less than 50lbs, probably some in the 30-35 pound range.  Nearly every flatbed pickup you see in MT has at least one on the back, so they are very common fairly close to you.  Honestly it's a perfect breed for you.  The only downside is sometimes they're not best around kids because they tend to try to herd them, but they're not aggressive or anything.  Just damn good dogs.  Tough as crap, too.

Looks a lot like our dog. DNA test said part Cattle Dog and Italian Greyhound. runs/hikes like crazy but is mostly lazy.

What are you seeing here?  I don't have any kids or other dogs or cats in my place, but I intend to take the dog to my friends' places that do, as well as to bars and parks and restaurants around here w/them, so dogs that are anti-social for any of those are out.

I like Blazer, looks cool, but no other details on him.

Like, I think they'd be fine if you weren't a lazy ass/completely unaware owner.  They are smart and listen well and aim to please.  Think of them like border collies (Lassie) but more blue collar looking.

If I didn't have sporting breeds but just wanted a dog this is what I would get, even with a young family.

Blazer is from Dina's human and wasn't recommended by the human after she got all my details.

Copper looks cool out of those results but maybe not if I'd have to drive to Portland to get him.  It showed up in the nearby results b/c the overseeing place is about 15 miles away.

We have one as our shop dog and I used to take him home on weekends when his owner was out of town.  He is a very good dog and I don't think I have ever heard him bark.

Alright, I'll send an app to the place that has Copper and a couple others that are younger than I had in mind but are described as already having their crap together.

I'd go with Oliver.  Just look at that face.  Also a great name.
