T&P's Emo and Pete.  Only checked the last two pages, but was looking at adopting a dog from a rescue.   Makes it tough , but knowing that it's that tough probably tells you how "worth it" it is, right?

Two years ago my buddy lost his old pointer bitch (old age).  Bought a pup to replace her.

About a year ago his other pointer bitch, 6 years old, died suddenly (grass awn migrated to spinal column, infection, paralysis).  Bought a pup to replace her.

Pup #1 died suddenly in January (impaled on mesquite tree), and he's looking into getting another puppy to replace.

So he must think it's worth it.  Honestly I don't know how he's not lost it going through all this heartache.  He's a better man than me no doubt.

It happens occasionally I guess.  Certainly not the first dog I've heard of to be impaled on something while running/hunting.  Barbed-wire fences are another hazard.

I don't think this means he thinks it's worth it. More like the dogs are a tool that when it breaks you replace it. He has no emotional attachment.

I mean it's not like he was drunk or high at a highway rest stop contemplating suicide but it did shake him up pretty good.

I took that more as you viewing as heartache. Your zipping through the replacements by him then adding your own thoughts as the end.

What if I told you that lots of dogs love to hunt?!  :Wha: It's fun for them! Instead, you take the risk of having your dog grow up in the dirty streets of the OP. SMDH!

Well what a rough ridin' week.  I've been getting up early to drive 50 miles to see my dog at the vet most mornings, and then back 50 miles into work.  On the days I can't go my buddy swings in and gives him some ear scratches for me.  He's been on aggressive anti-biotics and steroids since Monday.  There was some good initial improvement in mood and mobility, like lifting head and turning his body and stuff, but finally this morning he stood up on his own and took two steps.  I had told myself if Tuesday 7/5 he wasn't standing I knew it was his time, and had already called a vet to come to the house to do it (doesn't seem right to do him like that in a vet's office).  Looks like the old dog still has some fight in him.  As long as he can eat, drink, and go to the bathroom on his own, I'm happy.
