Mine is a sporting dog.  A little mixed up tho.  She likes indoors better than outdoors.  Likes the city more than the country.  But at least she hunts; only it's for snacks instead of birds.

Did I mention she likes to dance after she comes back in after going potty.  It's called "Give me a treat daddy" dance.

Hot time in Kat town tonight.

I like having a dog that has a purpose. And she always enjoys when we train, I'm looking forward to finishing her search dog certification this winter and seeing how she does in a real world scenario.

I let my dog out last night before going to bed and he took off like a shot off the deck into the yard... Not normal.  So I poked my head out and he had SOMETHING.. on the ground.  I immediately said a prayer for "NO SKUNKS GAWD NO SKUNKS!" and when I get out on the deck I see he has a paw on top of a possum that has gone into survival mode and playing dead.  Norman has a look on his face like... "OMFG I killed it!!" and comes back up on the deck when I call him.  I shut the gate to the deck and we both watch the possum come to in about 20 seconds and mad dash it out of the yard, through the fence, and up into the woods.  Unfortunately I didn't have my phone on me to get any footage of this Wild Kingdom moment.  I was happy to see the animal was unharmed and my dog really just treated it as a toy more than a meal.

anyway... Cool story.

Here is Norman now. He's 10 months old and about 80 lbs. he's had quite a bit of training. Good dog.

it must have taken him quite a bit of training to hop up on your leather couch like that

haha... That's his "Spot".  It's the only piece of furniture he gets on and only on that side.

Just found out yesterday that my old Golden has a tumor and has weeks/months left to live.  He's 13, and has a had a wonderful life and gave my family much more than he got.

This is super hard to take.

Thanks man.  The kids don't know yet.  Telling them will be excruciating.  They are in grade school, and have lived with him their entire lives.

Thanks man.  The kids don't know yet.  Telling them will be excruciating.  They are in grade school, and have lived with him their entire lives.

We went through this one year ago with the kids basset hound that they absolutely adore.  She fell down stairs and jacked her back up bad.  The vet gave her a not great chance at recovery and said that if she does recover, she won't have control of bowels and what not.  The vet also told us that if she didn't have a significant recovery in 2-3 days, then she won't at all.  We prepared to have her put down, then decided what would it hurt to give her an extra week or so. The dog made a 99% recovery and we avoided the issue, but part of the prep for putting her down was the discussion with the kids.  they were 8 and 10 at the time and took it so much better than I thought they would.

It sucks and I feel for you.
