This thread is dumb.

1)  Low populated Manhattan, KS

2)  Should probably pack non-conference games before we even sniff the idea.

It doesn't really matter if you have empty seats for some of the non-con as long as you fill the conference games and bigger and weekend non con games.   Another couple years of being a solid top 25 team and  the demand will be there.

Sure as hell helps the budget.  KU seems to be able to sell out every game, even teams like FHSU.  Until we are at that level, we have no business thinking expansion other than for more luxury seating.

For those non-conf games, only 65% of the students show up.  Why should we build more seats for them?

We do sell out or come close to selling out non-con games.  We have empty seats because people don't want to drive 4-5 hour round trip on a wednesday to watch us kick centenary's ass.

Also, I would rather see our money go to a new court to replace the shitty looking one we have now, and practice facilities for the players.  Seats are the last thing we need at the moment.

I agree with you but can a man dream?

They should go saw our fatass stairways in half and extend the benches and seats where applicable. Boom 200 seats.

That's expansion. The new fashioned way.

they need to paint those suckers something besides white, makes them standout and look emptyish  :curse:

People claim that NBAF alone could cause MHK's population to double. I don't know if that's 15 years after it's up and running or what, but that's significant.

Lots of limestone blocks built around it to make it the EMAW dream of Octagon of Ahearn DOOM.   Of course will need to use 8 blocks from the actual Ahearn as the cornerstones for this to work.

There isn't really any room to expand. We just took away a few hundred seats a couple of years ago when we built the loge boxes.

Yes, thats within 15-20 years.  Only supposed to bring a 2-3 hundred jobs while it's being built.  Once it is built, firms will start moving in.

It would be sweet to get the students to each hold up a square of cardboard with part of the picture, making one giant one in the student section.

Add an upper deck, a rail system around the top, and for God's sake some LED ribbons.

One step closer to the NBA  :pbj: :pbj:

meh...we could just attach rope swings from the rafters and sell tix for those seats.  We have to use those remote controlled helicopters to bring concessions up during the games, and require those patrons to wear diapers, but it'd work.

Since at some point I think they're going to need to widen and remodel the concourses, couldn't they use that time to push back the wall around the top of each section and add 2 or 3 rows of seating, except for the loge box areas of course.    The rows themselves would need aisles on each end leading to the landing, but I would think you could add back about 5=800 seats by doing that, and not have to mess with the roof or anything would you??  Archy/Engy types??

Pushing that wall back probably won't work. The roof trusses bear on that wall. Providing a proper load path would get pretty tricky once you start messin' with that wall.

Obviously money is tight but if we ever do get to the point where we expand on the OOD does anyone have any idea on the cost/way we would go about doing it?   I know I've heard it would be relatively inexpensive since Bramlage is built into the ground.

Sometime in the near future, I'm going to poster intimidate the eff out of you.  Not now, though.  I'm gonna make you sweat it out for a while.

2)  Should probably pack non-conference games before we even sniff the idea.

Considering that Ahearn fieldhouse originally held 14,000 in 1940 the population argument doesn't really work against expansion.

People not filling the arena...that argument works.

Yeah, they also played like 8 home games a season, not 45 like we do now.

DID YOU KNOW!  The original proposal of Bramlage called for 17,000 seats.  Thank f***ing God that didn't happen.  Was a horrible idea then, is a horrible idea now.
