Expanding Bramlage
« on: February 25, 2010, 02:26:26 PM »
Obviously money is tight but if we ever do get to the point where we expand on the OOD does anyone have any idea on the cost/way we would go about doing it?   I know I've heard it would be relatively inexpensive since Bramlage is built into the ground.

I've thought about this in the past, but blew it off since we're such a long way from making this necessary.

That said, I have no much it would cost to raise the roof.

I kind of thought Bud Walton arena in Arkansas is what Bramlage could look like.  It was built a few years after ours and is in the shape of an octagon...

I don't know why you say that.   There is no way/need in the next couple years but who knows what the demand will be in 5 years or beyond.

They should go saw our fatass stairways in half and extend the benches and seats where applicable. Boom 200 seats.

That's expansion. The new fashioned way.

This thread is dumb.

1)  Low populated Manhattan, KS

2)  Should probably pack non-conference games before we even sniff the idea.

Considering that Ahearn fieldhouse originally held 14,000 in 1940 the population argument doesn't really work against expansion.

People not filling the arena...that argument works.

It doesn't really matter if you have empty seats for some of the non-con as long as you fill the conference games and bigger and weekend non con games.   Another couple years of being a solid top 25 team and  the demand will be there.  The funds probably wouldn't be but the demand might.

I imagine season tickets for next year will be sold out.

You want to use the population base of Manhattan? Bramlage currently seats less than 1/3 of the population of MHK proper. Using your logic, we should have never added the upper deck to BSFS. Nobody's talking about a 'Cuse style upgrade, but another 2-3k seats would be nice and help makeup for the hit we take with such a large number of students in prime spots.

Add an upper deck, a rail system around the top, and for God's sake some LED ribbons.

Sure as hell helps the budget.  KU seems to be able to sell out every game, even teams like FHSU.  Until we are at that level, we have no business thinking expansion other than for more luxury seating.

For those non-conf games, only 65% of the students show up.  Why should we build more seats for them?

meh...we could just attach rope swings from the rafters and sell tix for those seats.  We have to use those remote controlled helicopters to bring concessions up during the games, and require those patrons to wear diapers, but it'd work.

Also, I would rather see our money go to a new court to replace the shitty looking one we have now, and practice facilities for the players.  Seats are the last thing we need at the moment.

$$ to retain our coaching staff?  Anyone?

I'm sure expanding Bramlage seating capacity is the last thing on their minds.
