On 08-11-2011 at 0206 hours Officers of the Riley County Police Department responded to the 1000 block north alley of Moro Str. in reference to a man down. Upon Officers arrival they discovered the victim, Kevin Lynn Cockrum, lying on the ground unconscious. Riley County EMS transported Cockrum to Mercy Health Center with life-threatening head injuries. Cockrum was flown to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita in critical condition. It is believed that Cockrum was beaten by unknown individuals. The investigation continues.

Victim: , Age: 31, Manhattan, KS

Update: On 08-12-2011 Kevin Cockrum succumb to his injuries while at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita. He was pronounced dead at 0840 hours. The investigation is now officially classified as a homicide.

Help Needed: There was a white vehicle occupied by 3 black males, seen in the area around the time of the attack. The Riley County Police Department is asking for help from anyone who has any information about this vehicle or the victim around the time of the attack. If you have information please contact Det. Brek Jager at (785) 537-2112 ext. 3100.

I don't think so this time. According to my diligent facebook research the guy was an ex soldier and combat vet. They don't usually stomp on their own.

Does anybody else hope deep down that the perpetrators are on our football team? If they were to get away with it, it would spell great things for the coming year. BCS-level great things.

Football is a team sport, so 5 shoplifters are better than 1 murderer, assuming the rest of the team is perfectly clean. However, if the rest of the team is mostly thugs and criminals, I would take the murderer.

I guess what I'm saying is, murderers are a waste of talent on a clean team, but on a dirty team, they are the difference between a good team and a great team. Murderers are like the wide receivers of team MCMW.
