Going from PC to Mac
« on: July 21, 2011, 07:44:58 AM »
so I still haven't bought a new laptop and I played with a Macbook Air at the Apple store so obviously I love them now.  They look so damn cool kid'ish.  The most elite airport people have them.  Plus I saw this:

http://gizmodo.com/5823364/the-13+inch-mba-burns-the-fastest-2010-macbook-pro

It would be about $1600 for the high end MBA.  What are the main issues I will run into when switching to a Mac for the first time?  Is my home network going to be all mumped up?  I won't be able to share stuff from my other laptops to the MBA over the network will I?  Will my WD TV Live media streamer thing be able to pull video and music from the MBA to play?

submit a ticket to the helpdesk

Shouldn't have much trouble switching fwiw, they make Macs for idiots so everything should work ok out of the box. Maybe not the WD live but i'm sure you will buy an AppleTV next

I experienced no issues with the transfer to Mac other than the little quirks with the touchpad and function keys. I got Mac/Microsoft office package and it works like a charm. Plus i look elite as balls in the airport with this badboy. Wan't to set my work PC on fire every morning. LOL at my Dell Latitude E6400

I went into the "atmospheric" turntable room the other day and every one of the DJs had a mac.  I lol'd at this and nobody there laughed.  hurt me bad.

alls i have to say is lulz were had when i reds this thread.

fwi, also getting that same model myself.  the new feature Airdrop file sharing won't work since it only works with other machines running Lion but like saul said everything else should be fine.

you won't have to change your home network at all.  WD TV Live works with OSX.

I just got the 15" MacBook Pro.  Love it.  I didn't have all that stuff on my old HP, so I will be of no help to you in any of the questions that you have.

Made the change earlier this summer, SD, and I haven't looked back once.  I don't really know all the crazy crossover integration stuff (no iphone, etc.), but it's still pretty great.

not a mac guy but the Macbook Air is pretty effing elite looking in almost every way.  Unfortunately this frugal sob refuses to pay that kind of money for something that will never be used even remotely, to it's full potential.  Kind of like dropping a few grand on a vacation and sitting in the room checking work email the whole time.  :goodbyecruelworld:

I like the samsung one a lot too but it's more expensive for what you get hardware-wise.  Really bizarre saying that about a pc v. mac.

I don't see how it isn't a waste of money.  Especially for the extreme couponing thread guy.

chum1, did you see how hip it makes you look if you have one?  have you walked into a mac store and played with one and felt that hipness?  wow.

Not sure that using a laptop so that others can see you using should qualify as hip.

I'm not 100% certain you are up to speed with what qualifies as hip these days. Using your parameters you've ruled out 90% of your opportunities to be hip.

Quote from: Research
PC people are more likely to be team players, better at math, introspective and conservative (in politics, art and food -- preferring white wine, strawberry daiquiris and sweet snacks over Mac fans' love for salty things, red wine and gimlet cocktails), according to the survey. Mac people also find it important to be considered unique, which may be the driving personality trait that informs many of their choices in art, food, and even media.

Those Mac users are such individualists!  Oh wait....every Mac looks exactly the same

Congrats steve dave on joining the sheeple.
