Doing some pond fishing.  Pulled out a good sized bluegill.. i knew the state master angler record for bluegill was pretty low (10in) so i thought i'd measure it out.

1/4in too short... had 3 more and got 8.4oz of fillets for lunch tomorrow with that almost catch included.  And, if anyone is going to give me grief for catch and eat, the pond is overstocked and needs culling.

I like blue gill fishing on light tackle, what are you using to catch them?

Just spent a week in the BWCA. Caught about 70 smallies, but most were small. One was 16 and my son caught an 18. Great times.

I like blue gill fishing on light tackle, what are you using to catch them?

I was fishing for bass so i just had some plastics on (natural looking weighted brush hog) and i couldn't not pull in bluegill.  I was using a pretty big hook (3/0) so every one i pulled in was a body hook.  Ended up with half bluegill and half scrap bass (under 1lbs).

But, not all of them were keepers, some were winners.

I have very low catfish IQ. You're right, pro fisher guy, I do not make money fishing nor will I expend excess effort to catch them. The cat pictured was the 2nd of that size of the night. The first one we released. The second would not respond so he went with us. We tried.

Just giving you a little crap.Setting bank lines is fun to do every once in a while and can be hard work even from a boat.Nice fish and good that you returned the one you did.Big flatheads are pretty tasty too 

I've done the bank lines about 3 times now. It's fun to strap on a headlamp and buzz around on the river at night w/ some cold beer. Except for the spiders.

Been out a few times in the last couple of weeks trying to catch some crappie.  Cleaned just over 50 crappie from a farm pond yesterday.  None real big, but good eating size.

Went two sats ago.  didn't catch a thing, but went in our HOA lake that is small and they don't stock it.  Went just to get out with my son on an awesome day. 

Going to try some walk in fishing joints in Leavenworth Co in the next week or two, depending on the weather.
