A little late, but agree on the basic DC/NYC take. I'd rather live in DC, but I'd rather visit NYC. The first time I went there it was a little mind-blowing even after living in DC for a year or so.

That said, I will not stand idly by and let people slander DC night life. If you can't have a good time at night in DC, it's probably because you're afraid to leave Georgetown or 7th street and risk encountering a minority in the wild.

In Adams Morgan do tourists run in to B and C list guests on the cable Sunday shows?

You're more likely to see them in Georgetown/M street during the week for lunch (once saw Rahm Emmanuel at the turkish panini place; he was wearing a dark brown suit and totally pulling it off  ) or around the U street corridor at night (increasingly trendy for rich white folks and (added bonus) the burgeoning epicenter of the new gentrification debate). Capitol Grille is a great spot for this, too.

Adams Morgan used to be super alternative. Still looks that way, but is now full of lawyers and lobbyists and such (still a little too seedy for the cable show crowd, though). On the plus side, probably one of the greatest 5-block concentrations of ethnic restaurants in the country. Used to do a global app crawl there a couple times a year with a group of friends.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

what kind of life does felix live in which Rahm Emmanuel is a b/c lister, wow.  right now, he's pretty far up the list of guys i'd like to do lunch with.

Does that make them unbangable? He was dating one so I would assume not.

Anybody ever been to Ithaca, NY? Have a chance to go and would have free lodging and some food paid for, trying to decide if it would be worth buying a plane ticket or using some rewards to go.

I have a friend that went to Cornell and he wasn't overly complimentary of it. I think it's just a college town (which is great, but maybe not the best for tourism)

I hear the gorges are pretty (aka google says they are), not much of a fly fisherman though (aka I've never done it)

I went to phoenix this weekend and left wondering why anyone would choose to go there. It just becomes more and more awful the more the San Francisco smugness rubs off on me.

Same question here. Have to go to Phoenix late in the month and haven't been there since '93. Took my golf clubs then, but won't have time to golf this time.

Also, thanks for the Scottsdale tip, Wacky. It reminded me that every time I've been to Phoenix I've holed up in Scottsdale. No better choice.

What would you normally do in Wichita? You can probably do the same thing in Phoenix, only with more dust.
