I drove through Baltimore the day before. We took the tunnel, but coincidentally I was thinking about what would happen if the tunnel failed as we drove through.

Any Yellowstone/Grand Tetons pro-tips?

that is an elite cabin.

my biggest pro tip is to go out early and late and avoid the middle part of the day. since you are staying so far away it will not be practical to drive back to the cabin over lunch, but you should be able to find somewhere to park and rest for a lunch nap. and prepare to drive forever. since you have an elite cabin to store all your luggage, it will be nice to drive around in an empty car, other than food and water for the day.

It will be long drive to the Tetons from Gardiner.  Are you thinking a down/back day trip or will you stop on the front or tail end of trip?

Rent canoes or kayaks at Colter Bay on Jackson Lake.  Paddle around the little bays/coves in the area.  Pick out a quiet shoreline spot for lunch.  View of peaks across the water is incredible.

Good hiking around the smaller lakes south of Jackson Lake.  We enjoyed a loop with Bradley and Taggart Lakes.  Jenny Lake is probably the busiest area, but worth a drive buy and photos at minimum.

The Tetons will be on the way home. You're right, much too far for a day trip from the Gardiner cabin. We're going to stay near Jackson at least one night on the trip home. Thanks for the tips!

Awesome, thanks mocat! We plan to spend at least 2 full days in the park, maybe 3. But knowing how crowded the park can be I wanted a home base that was also out in nature where we could hike, view wildlife, fish and relax away from the crowds. The cabin is surrounded by 70 acres of private hiking trails and access to the Yellowstone River. The plan is to get as close to camping as we can without actually camping.

I'm also hoping for clear skies because I would love to be able to take advantage of the dark skies for some astrophotography.

Ok gE friends, I need some opinions.

I have a flight home out of Madrid on May 3rd. I will be in Paris until the 16th, so that leaves me around 16 days to fill. The activities I have left are taking the golden pass rail through Switzerland, so let's say 3 days there. Then the Sagrada in Barcelona and a few days in Madrid, say a week combined.

What should I do for those other 5ish days?  A few things to keep in mind; 4 days is about as long as I can stand in a place, but also any flight will likely wipe me out totally for the rest of the day. In my current condition I can do about 5-6 hours tops of activity, so a jam packed itinerary won't happen. It's also unlikely I'll ever be across the pond again.

Option 1: fly to Rome from Switzerland, then to Barcelona to finish the journey. Peggy pos - see some old crap and visit the Vatican. Nancy negs - two flights

Option 2: stay somewhere on the French riveria. Peggy pos - relaxing I guess. Nancy negs - not exactly beach season.

Option 3: your suggestions!

I started to type out "Lyon food tour" but then remembered you don't like onions. Maybe Monte Carlo?

I don't know if Amsterdam is too far out of the way but you can hit up the "coffee shops" (weed) and see a sex show after you go to the Anne Frank house. I'd probably do that over Rome if I hadn't been to either but I haven't been to Rome.
