I ate at some Mexican place in Portland and got up to go to the bathroom and accidentally walked into a strip club, because I chose the wrong door. True story. Mrs. Wacky decided we should just go to the strip club after dinner, because when in Rome. So random. Strip club was literally in the back of the Mexican restaurant.

I enjoyed Podnah's BBQ in Portland when we visited there. It was the only BBQ I've had in the PNW that was good and I really liked the brisket there.

does anyone remember flying Vanguard?

https://twitter.com/airlinemaps/status/1473380920849752066

I'm pretty sure I flew as an unaccompanied minor from Wichita to KC once
Flew Vanguard to 95 Holiday Bowl.  KCI to SF then drove down to SD.  I think the airfare was like $95.

I'm pretty sure they have their own smoker. This is what is on the website:

All our meats are slow smoked using 100% oak hardwood. Without electric, gas assistance, or charcoal.
I start at 5 a.m. every morning to have meat ready by dinner that night.

What would it mean for a place to not have their own smoker?

Well if they don't have a smoker or grill they're most likely making bbq in a oven or even worse they are boiling something shrink wrapped by Hormel, then putting sauce on it then finishing it in the oven.

Real barbeque is made on a grill or smoker, you knew this, right?

If my man is smoking his own meat, every day, I don't give a eff how hipster he wants it to look like. This is at the bottom of the menu.
"Smoked meats cooked over an oak fire. Flour and Corn tortillas made made in house. (Corn from Three Sisters nixtamal.)"
This place will be my first PDX meal tomorrow and I hope like hell it's in whatever passes for the hood in Portland.

There are neck beards, pony tails, and beanies and and old man with a big ass silver chain. Whatever it is, it doesn't connote what they serve in that restaurant.

In vodka terms, this is Gordon’s and Zelko merging.

Yes, I know real barbecue is made on a grill or smoker.

I thought this is what you meant, but I can't imagine recommending a place that does BBQ in an oven or boiling Hormel meats, so I wasn't sure if I was missing something.

Yep, loved it. We stayed at Tulemar on the pacific coast by the Manuel Antonio nature reserve. rough ridin' sloths outside our window, monkeys running all over the place, and loads of parrots and crap. Amazing. The place we stayed was nice. We got one of the cheaper “bungalow” things and it was perfect for us.

this is what I'm looking for. I want to be as far away from corporate all inclusive resorts as I can get.

What time of year did you go? I've heard conflicting things about dry/rainy season.

Resort looks fantastic. I'm curious about flights. Did you take the regional from SJO or drive?
