Check out Willie Mae's Scotch House for what both the James Beard Foundation and the Spracne Société Gastronomique have dubbed the best fried chicken in the world. Seriously, this is perhaps the only dish I've had where the hype it had going in was blown out of the water by the actual experience. It's like a virus that turns its hosts into devoted acolytes, so be forewarned.

I’ll be traveling out west again to hit up Royals spring training for the first time in a few weeks. Pretty jacked about it.

Spracs, what if I told you that I ate at Willie Mae's this very evening?  Recommendo--get the fried okra or the beans as your side.

Other recommendo--go to Dooky Chase's for lunch. Similarly delicious fried chicken (dry batter vs wet) on a giant buffet lovingly prepared for you by a nonagenarian New Orleans institution, Leah Chase.

New Orleans might be my favorite city I've ever visited. Just a wonderful place.

@8manpick How cold is it in Chicago this week? Looks like our event will be at the McCormick Place. We're staying there too.

Going to NYC next week. Staying over in Lower East Side, friends live in Chelsea.

I have Existing Conditions and Momofuku Noodle Bar on the list already. Did Katz’s and Russ and Daughter’s last time.

Any must-hit recommendations? 4-6 of us total, all roughly 30, no kids.  Mostly looking for food/bars. I’ve done most of the tourist stuff I’m interested in.

Not very? Snow/freezing rain today but it’s mid-upper 30s all week

I always like dead rabbit downtown for drinks. Seem to always go to Harry's also downtown for their brunch (unlimited champagne). Park avenue winter was delicious last time I was there.

In the next month: Nashville for a weekend, Charlotte for a week, Atlanta for a week, Louisville for a weekend

Get to fly out of MHK for two of them though so at least there is that.

Highly recommend Party Fowl in Nashville for hot chicken without the long lines.

Not really, McCormick is kind of out of the way, down by Chinatown if you’re into that.  It’s all relative though, it’s about 15 minutes from my office and the area you stayed in last time.

Thanks, I’ve heard Dead Rabbit from other friends too.

That one is for a wedding so I don't know how much free time I will have.  I am hoping to hit 610 Magnolia but don't think it will be possible.

Edward Lee is great!  That is definitely on my list.

Went to Momofuku Noodle Bar last night, and Scarr’s Pizza. And about a dozen bars.

Pork Belly Bun not pictured, but one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

I’m looking at going to NYC in May for a conference. I’ve never been there so I’m gonna re read a good portion of this thread for suggestions.

Just an amazing place if you love cities.  My favorite activity is just walking through manhattan and brooklyn through the neighborhoods and running into random places.  Only touristy things I've done in my 12+ trips there is the staten island fairy (it's free and it was close to our bottomless brunch place so decided a free boat ride would be fun) and 9/11.

The places I've returned to are Frying Pan, McSorleys, Harrys downtown for brunch, Uncle Nick's.  Probably one of the best meals I've had there I had last time was Park Avenue Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall.  They change the name of the place with seasons.

I’ve always wanted to go. I’ve seen the skyline before flying in and out of Newark but never been in the city. The conference is right by Chelsea where 8MP is staying. First order of business is to figure out if hotel or AirBnB is the right way to go. I’m thinking AirBnB so I can get more authentic experience.

I want to get in as much as I can but I know I’ll go again sometime so want to make sure I hit some good places the first time.
