I'm a relatively new poster to this thread, how do you AA people tolerate their old ass fleet of planes?

AA's fleet is newer than DL's. Especially with all the new A321's and 737-800's coming online. UA is a train wreck operationally.

ETA: and considering a new airplane often runs 80-300 million, I find it hard to bitch with my $1,000 ticket.

Average Fleet age by airline:

AA: 10.9 years
WN: 12.3 years
UA: 13.8 years
DL: 17.0 years

What are you talking about?

I only fly AA when someone else purchases the fare and every time I fly domestically it's on a shitty MD-80. I flew to London last year and I don't remember what the model was but I do remember it had the old phones that you had to slide a credit card into and the cabin had three television screens attached to the ceiling of the plane, one of them didn't work. I begged the company that booked that fight for me never to do it again, that was nine hours of hell.

I have no idea where they're hiding their new planes to get that low of a number for their average fleet but they should start to actually use them.

Sounds like a small sample size there tex.

Older aircraft are generally better though, bigger seats and more room.

I'm not a person of size, the lack of amenities is much more important to most frequent flyers.

oh yeah, their new 175's are great. all of those MD80s are on the way out so soon they'll have a nice small bird fleet.

The good news is that the FAA actually has rules regarding aging aircraft and they made them retroactive for all the large aircraft that were certified before the rules came out (which is usually not the case for new rules).

The two recently horrible experiences I had were ORD to LHR and LAX to DFW to MSP. I'm perfectly accepting of the fact that I'm going to get regional jets out of DSM although United does a fair amount of bigger, newer jets out of here.

When I fly AA I will take a 4 hour layover to avoid the md80 from Dallas to KC.

And I fully admit that it is stupid.  But at least I can get my money's worth out of the lounge pass.

another NRT vs HND smakoff

AA flies ancient smelly 777 recycle bins to NRT and brand new shiny glorious 787 intergalactic love machines to HND

The wife and I are going overseas in a couple weeks and we transfer through Moscow. Anyone flown through there? My two basic goals at this point is to pick up a hammer/sickle fur hat and try to not get murdered.
