Thinking about taking a quick trip to an all inclusive resort over the winter. Want to go somewhere warm, other than that I don't really care where it is. Neither Mrs KCFD nor I have done an all inclusive before. Need some recommendos

Secrets Silversands was good...but it's the only all-inclusive I've ever done.  I guess all-inclusive was fine but probably won't seek them out again.

I liked the Hyatt in Cancun a lot but I think it's been redone since I went. You can the Hyatt CC signup bonus nights to stay there if you haven't already used them up. Pretty sure rick daris had good luck with the Riu in Cancun. I also stayed at a Riu in Cabo but it was not as nice as the Hyatt even though the Mexican food was better. Would still go again because it was really cheap. I would recommend Cancun over other locations unless you can find a much cheaper flight/rate somewhere else. It's probably the easiest to get to from the midwest and it's great - like the water/sand is just stunning. I guess PV and Cabo are probably about a wash time-wise but they aren't as nice IMO.

Also I would absolutely seek out all-inclusives again. It's what I would prefer for my next vacation.

Avoid the crowds in Cancun and head just a bit south to the Riviera Maya. Been several times, and immensely enjoyed every trip. Lots of great all inclusive resorts to choose from, and just a short cab ride from Cancun airport. Check out Grand Palladium and Barcelo Maya, my two favorites. I've stayed in Cancun as well, but really enjoyed the seclusion and quiet of the resorts south of the city.

We're currently looking at the riu Riviera Maya. Looks like it has mostly good reviews, several restaurants, and is pretty affordable.

I've not stayed at the Riu, but I'm sure it's nice. Winter there is great. Less humidity, comfortable temps, less travelers. Evenings can get a tad cool. My wife brought a light sweater, which came in handy a couple nights.

Just use bug spray. Unless you're trekking through the jungle, I think you'll be fine. The resorts heavily spray for bugs. I've never noticed them while vacationing.

My wife was too when we went a few months ago.  I wouldn't worry about it unless you're trying to get pregnant.

We stayed at a Rui in Costa Rica and it was nice. The food was ok, not spectacular but not bad. There seemed to be several kids.

We stayed at the Barcelo Maya in Riviera Maya and liked it. That was a few years ago.

Zika is how I convinced Mrs. Wacky to go to the DR for our honeymoon. Babies can wait.  :D

Also, Zika is so overrated. If you get it, it only affects a potential pregnancy up for a year or 2. Meanwhile, there's 60 year olds getting pregnant by the day.  :Ugh:

Ha, lots of Barcelo Maya folks here.    We actually did Barcelo Tropical (same resort) in 2006 for our honeymoon.   I'd definitely recommend Riviera Maya over Cancun.   Barcelo was fine for what it was, but you can get so much better if you spend a little more.

Since then we've been to Puerto Vallarta 4 times, and not sure we'd ever go back to the east coast.   We love the atmosphere there, totally different than the Carribbean side.   If you decide to look west, check out Casa Velas.      They do have a Velas resort in Playa as well.     We love Casa Velas as it's boutique (80 rooms), never full, and adults only.   Sit down restaurant so no buffet.   Food is 4*.
