I've always wanted to go to Oregon. Looks amazing out there. Not sure if October is the best time to do it tho.

I've been to Oregon in late Sept and it's amazing. I dunno about November though.

French food is boring and too much work to find at a decent price.

i don't agree with boring, but had the same experience with pricing.  not a great time for the budget-conscious traveler.  i can only imagine how much i would have wanted to murder any children in the area if i had to pay those prices to feed their ungrateful asses.

A bunch of french food takes a lot of time to cook.  Sauces, braises, etc.  Lots of labor and resource allocation compared to a lot of other cuisines.

That said, I love it.  It is my favorite to cook.

Portland is fun especially if you like wine and/or beer... Then amtrak up to Seattle, enjoy that then fly out of Seattle.

I also noticed big differences in prices getting things to go vs. sitting down to eat.

Another problem is yelp and tripadvisor suck because of so many idiot tourists. Also I'm staying in a very touristy area.

If I ever come back I'll probably just get more baguettes and meat and cheese and wine from a grocery store and eat in parks.

I think we're booking it tonight. It was that or San Antonio and we've both been there before. NW USA is the only spot I haven't touched yet, unless you count san fran.

I just took one for a spin to a record store! Shitty initial experience though. I got my first bike, started to pedal away, went nowhere. chain was broken. Tried to return it and get another, but someone took the spot I left vacant and there were no open spots. So I had to push my bike a couple of blocks to find an open spot to return it. After that it was great if Google maps didn't send me down an alley full of pedestrians. Also the record store sucked. Isn't the whole point of a record store in France to have a good selection of African and French go-go? Apparently not. May do some more searching tomorrow.

Yelp is the worst
Ppl rate things like Applebee's as the best restaurant in the area often.  I used to use Urban spoon a lot, but they were bought by zomato and bow suck too.

I pretty much followed kat kid's advice from earlier in the thread.

Very touristy things. Harry Potter studio for the kids was pretty great. British Museum is unreal amazing as far as museums go. Enjoyed eating at pubs even though I think they were all chains disguised as neighborhood pubs.

We booked Portland. Pretty stoked. Gonna rent a car and go to all the cool hiking places with the waterfalls.  :excited:
