Hai, gooch-san should go to Shinjuku.

gotcha. it does look like partyville usa outside of Shinjuku. when I go to Tokyo I'm just going there for a week and then flying back home.

That works for me.

seems like you need to know some Japanese to visit Tokyo. True or false Tokyo vets?

nope. you can bumble your way through anything with absolutely no japanese.
Just learn how to say "thank you" "excuse me" and "I'm sorry" and you'll be all set.

They all get rudimentary English at least in school. They know your letters and numbers. Most people can speak much more English than they let on. They are afraid of saying the wrong thing or saying something wrong.

They do not expect foreigners to know any Japanese. People will look at you like you're a talking dog for uttering the simplest Japanese phrases.

We were at a neighborhood restaurant where you order by writing what you want on a post it. We copied the Kanji (from the English menu) and they absolutely lost their minds over it. The cooked passed it to all the other Japanese people in the restaurant and they clapped and cheered.

this was an absolutely lovely story.

will be flymhk'ing next month.   Looks like parking is fouled up?   Is it a mess or do I need to plan extra time for my 6:20AM departure?

Also, @Canary, take the Versailles exit in Frankfort. Drop South to Versailles and east to Lexington. SdK will get to see the castle.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Just arriving home after a weekend trip to Kentucky.  Spent a day in Lexington. Amazing horse farms and countryside. We saw some of his family, drove around the city, general travel stuff. We drove to the castle - SdK was glad to see it.  Went to Rupp Arena - SdK got some UK gear. Spent part of today in Louisville - I got to go to Church Hill Downs, and then a campus tour of the University of Louisville.  That campus is full of amazing sports venues. Saw the baseball stadium, football stadium, field hockey stadium, soccer stadium, et. etc. etc.  Why didn't we want them in the conference again?  As we were driving away, SdK said, "The Bi2 f%#^&$ up." Thanks for the suggestions.
