so it appears i really dropped the ball with my portugal report, sorry mocat and anyone else that was interested but i had a really busy fall/early winter

day 2

checking out cabo de roca and sintra via bus and foot

took a bus up the estoril coast to cabo de roca, the westernmost piece of land in continental europe, man was it pretty, almost sheer cliffs and big ol' waves crashing

from there, into the mountains to sintra.  sintra is extremely touristy with tons of palaces, castles and historical sites.  the shopping district is basically hung on a mountainside

the castelo dos mouros, or castle of the moors

that last picture was from atop the castle, and looking up even further to the next stop, the palacio nacional de pena, or pena national palace

dead ass tired waiting for the bus to pick us up, this cobblestone was everywhere

Where does Grand Lake Lodge rank in for scenery/drinks/meals?  Any day trip recommends from your general locale?

day 3 portugal

wife had her head in the toilet most of the night so we hung around our rented villa until noon

we jumped on a train to lisbon to catch a sporting portugal match.  we were the 1st ones to the tailgate and shut it down.  a couple of locals were our new best friend when they found out we were from the u.s. and texas.  sporting portugal rolled, i was drunk as cooter brown and a good time was had

passed out on the train back to cascais, somehow made it back to the villa after midnite

going to vegas monday night thru thursday night.  fiancee has a work conference so I'll be on my own during the days.  any recommendos for just rolling around solo?  always been with huge groups before, kind of excited to just lone ranger around.  also need good(?) recommendos for nice fancy dinner as we're going to do our anniversary dinner there.  tia.

Eiffel Tower restaurant was amazing, imo. But this is admittedly coming from a hillbilly.

day 4 portugal

back to sintra, so much to see and do there.  we started with the quinta da regaleira, a must see for the initiatic well

the sintra national palace

and when you see this sign, you have arrived in heaven.  the paella, hhhhnnnnggggghhhhh

the waiter was confused when i ordered the paella and the sirloin.  he said the paella is for 2.  i kindly explained to him that there was no way i was leaving portugal without paella but my wife could not eat any more seafood so we had to get both

this is me, after eating, trying to fugure out a way i could parlay our 1000 remaining euro into not going back to the states and staying in portugal forever

Just got back from golfing in Surprise, AZ and attending the Phoenix open.  Partied in Oldtown  :fatty: pretty hard after the open.  Had great seats on the 16th green in the stadium.  Was a wild good time. Long version below.

Since most of us have probably done Oldtown and golfing in Phoenix area, not much to report.  Next year the WMO is the same weekend as the superbowl down there so that should be a pretty crazy time.  The tournament is basically a giant tailgate with 189k people watching golf.  Being in Scottsdale, on a golf course, and in great weather removes lots of the trashy aspects of tailgating and enhances the number of good looking ladies.  We got into the tournament around 7:30 Saturday morning so we could check things out.  Played 36 each of the two days before so we had been going to bed fairly early.  Tickets to get in were $30 each and they never run out of tickets.  We walked over to the 16th hole while checking out 17 and 18 and got into the stadium when there were tons of seats.  It filled up around 8:45 and by 9:45 you were looking at a 3.5hr wait to get into the stadium since no one wanted to leave. The concession stand that opened at 9 had $7 beers and $4 hotdogs.  Beer vendors and a pretty long bathroom line were all we needed.  Lots of betting on random things like the colors of the next groups pants and what certain guys would shoot on the hole was going on.  Once the last group went through we headed towards 18 to watch everyone finish up.  Ended up seeing a couple shots then heading out.  Cab line was a great setup, just way too many people.  Ended up taking about a $60 cab over to Oldtown where we had some food at HiFi and partied there for quite some time.  Finished up at El Hefe before heading home.  Airport wasn't terrible on Sunday which surprised us, was pretty hungover from the
