Day 2 update

Drove through a flash flood (almost turned around, was sketchy as hell)  in Boulder to get Gravity Brewing’s food “Gatronauts” and it was good. Pizza, grilled romaine Caesar salad, wings, burgers. Got a Mexican sour while I waited that was solid.

Made it to SLC, we left at 4:30 am. At the hotel pool, then will go on a hike and get some good dinner, early bedtime then tomorrow plan is to leave early and get to Tahoe for late lunch and swim then roll in to Davis in early evening.

No actual hike, but this is the lake we settled on.

As far as food, looking for good cocktails (ha Utah!) and decent kid staples. Could just do takeout too, not really settled on anything.

Someone give me a place to stop for dinner approx halfway through the drive from Chicago to Overland Park tomorrow

this is more like 1/3 of the way but i saw it on twitter a while back and it looked p good.

Why would you drive through the QC when driving from Chicago to KC? That way is no faster and you have to drive on Illinois' shitty toll road.

Yeah, good cocktails… most of those places probably aren’t kid friendly, but any nice restaurant should have a handful on the menu.  If you are already going to be up in park city, maybe just walk up and down Main Street/Park Ave and see what looks good.  I would recommend High West, but I think they may have switched to 21+ a couple years ago.  If you’re heading back down to the valley for dinner, maybe look at Stratford Proper or Avenues Proper.

Day 2 update

I went in the lake with my phone in my pocket and then couldn’t remember my Apple ID password and so I have a new phone but only can receive calls basically. So that’s fun.  Went to a brew pub that was pretty good, leaving early tomorrow then am headed straight to Cupertino to find my password.

Day 3 update

Remembered my Apple ID password miraculously. Still have to redownload apps and some other things but contacts and pics are back, got my watch tethered and we are off.  Made great time across Utah and Nevada and probably going to stop in Tahoe and eat before the home stretch. California Train Museum is open tomorrow and we are going to ride the rails.

Road trips can be fun. I'm starting to appreciate that aspect of this endeavor. A little.

Day 3 update-

TAHOE!

Omg! Saw the sign for Truckee and announced to the kids “WE ARE IN CALIFORNIA!”

Then I typed in “restaurant” like a moron and saw a pizza place called Glenshire Pizza Company and I was like “great!”

Actually this place rules! They had an outdoor picnic area that was covered with bean bag toss and tons of other kids toys. I ordered right away and they brought the pizza out super fast, very hot (Greek salad and half eaten slices for dad). Solid thin, crunchy, bubbly, crust, very good sauce, cheese was a little molten.

After traversing the desert it was even better. Folks this trip is turning around, a lot of positive momentum has been built.
