Any NYC pro tips? I leave next Saturday for a week long Dental Conference in Manhattan. It's near Hell's Kitchen. I've only been there once and it was for like a day, with @EMAWgeddon. Am I going to die there? If Kevin McCalister can do it, I can too, right?

Go to Existing Conditions on 8th St.  Go to Katz’s, it’s touristy but it’s the best pastrami I’ve had. Eat pizza. Scarr’s is cool on Ludlow in the Lower East Side.

This is always my advice.  Just wander.  I've only revisited a couple bars/restaurants ever while there.  McSorelys is still a great destination.  Park Avenue Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer (they change their design every season) is a good meal at a good price especially including wine.  Frying Pan but that's for summer drinking. Harry's downtown has a great brunch.

You'll miss Santacon thankfully.

I love walking around cities, but standing for 9 hours a day, I doubt i'm going to walk very far after the event each day. We shall see.

Manhattan has a ridiculous number of boring ass cocktail bars selling $15 fish tacos. I hate traveling there for work because I always end up at them with coworkers.

x/post in BBQ thread

I went on a road trip yesterday with my dog.  Went to try out some East North Carolina whole hog barbecue. It was a cool experience, fun trip, but I’ll take KC / Texas barbecue above that style x100. Available selections everywhere were essentially chopped pork with slaw and cornbread, plus smoked chicken.

Went to B’s BBQ in Greenville, Grady’s Barbecue in Dudley, and Skylight Inn BBQ in Ayden.  13 hours on the road, good food, lots of leftovers, one speeding ticket. The drive through Virginia on I-95 in the morning was beautiful with the fall leaves and the gradual change in forestry going south. Started raining in the afternoon.

Here are some pics:

(forgot food pic at Grady’s)
