staying at the park hyatt beaver creek in march. flying into eagle. have always driven up from denver so that'll be nice. going to ski for the first time in my life. snowboarded in HS and college but have never had skis on my feet. should I take a lesson or some crap? can a guy in the upper end of his 30s figure out how to ski on his own without breaking bones? kind of scared of dying in a head/tree accident assuming I can get that kind of speed going. perfectly fine with looking like an idiot. ty.

Have stayed at PHBC with @MrsWondermeal, AMA.

FYI - Snowboarding is way more difficult.  I wouldn't do more than a half day of lessons.  From there you can probably figure out turning and crap.

There are second hand stores in a lot of those towns that cater exclusively to ski clothes.  Could save a lot if you're never going to use the stuff again.  Also, get something to cover your nose/mouth if its really cold out.

big things to buy-
ski pants
good googles
long underwear
sunblock
booze for the hot tub

you can easily make do with the rest of what you have

Outside of the extreme skiers, some of the most pro-types hardly have any gear. Like they’ll go pole-less and short sleeves like idgaf I’m just gonna ski down this blue/black backwards on my lunch break.

Skiing is kinda like swimming. It’s pretty dangerous until you get to a minimum level of competency but after you learn once you’re fine and then it just takes practice to get smoother/cooler at it.

If it’s going to be cold, I would add a good pair of gloves/mitts to that list.  Getting by with a cheap coat or pants is no big deal, but gloves make a huge difference IMO.

It truly is great to be able to do the sledding and playing with your kids in the snow stuff without getting cold at all.

My wife specifically requested a snow weekend. I don't get it either. I mostly want cabin with a fireplace and booze and puzzles to put together or something

I don't understand your post or TBTs, tbh. To whom is the shade being thrown?
