I've gone to and from New York in 20 hours, 25 hours and once, in 35 hours. But it's been 1,263 miles every time. Hours is useless, especially for a long road trip.

For instance, 20 miles non-stop through Kansas takes >20 minutes depending on how fast you're driving. 20 miles through Colorado Mountains non stop may take between 30-90 minutes.

Your answer of 20 minutes w/ perfect traffic and an hour and a half in bad traffic is actually the perfect answer.
in the country - milesin a city - minutes/rush hour and minutes/normal

You know what's tough about driving in LA during rush hour? Not a damn thing. I felt so badass after realizing that. Everyone got me really worked up about it and, like, the hotel guy was all laughing about some hick hayseed from KS coming out and trying to drive their roadways but it was very meh. It's like Omaha or KC during rush hour but with three more lanes. Big rough ridin' deal.
