Might of out done UCLA

There is no "might of" here.

Alford was a really bad hire.  Really, really bad.

Has taken Iowa and UNM to 3 seeds in the NCAAs. Granted, he's a prick, and he lacks tournament success, but if you can win at Iowa you can win at UCLA.

He didn't really win at Iowa, though.  He had a losing Big Ten record over eight years.  He only had three seasons with a winning record in the Big Ten.

In 18 years as a D1 coach, he's been to the NCAA tournament 7 times.  He's only gotten out of the first weekend one time (1999).

His resume was worse than oscar's...

That's trolling UCLA fans, right? RT @USC_Athletics: Andy Enfield: "I am looking forward to bringing an up-tempo style of play to USC."

Grew up watching Iowa hoops when he was there, but from what a remember a sophomore guard was accused of rape, entered a guilty plea and through all that Alford was very publicly advocating his innocence and questioning the credibility of the victim. Even after he had pled guilty.

And then last week he signed a 10 year extension with UNM, and then took the UCLA job the day before his buyout went from 175k to 1m.

Remember last year when there were rumors that Alford was our next coach?

First of all the three coaches before him were Tom Davis, George Raveling, and Lute Olson. He didn't outperform any of them. Secondly, he didn't win at Iowa. A 58% winning clip, is real average.

UCLA was getting desperate. Had to get a coach in place pretty quickly and settled on a familiar name. Alford won't be there five years from now...or maybe three.

His college coach probably influenced him quite a bit.

Alford would walk into stores (hardware, clothing, appliance, etc.) and walk out with merchandise without paying because hey's king crap of eff mountain and he's owed these things. One time I guess he just loaded up a like a snowblower into his truck and drove off.  I think these are pretty "open" secrets if you ask Iowa fans.  I am sure stories from UNM will be coming out soon as well.

As a coach, Alford is pretty much Dana Altman part 2. His exit from Iowa was very similar to Altman's exit from K-State; both "resigned" and took jobs at non-AQ schools. Alford's success at New Mexico is very similar to Altman's at Creighton.

between the ages of 10 and 12, I probably read this 5 times:

"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

So TT is racist right?

I tried baiting him earlier with no luck.

If you were that unimaginative I would still be P.I.ing you. We all know Emo is a rough ridin' moron, this isn't breaking new ground here. He read what I wrote and took out of it that I would have thought TT were racists if they hired a white coach. Why would I waste the time on a paste eating mouthbreather who wouldn't understand anyway?

Also if I wasn't previously clear, this hire was stupid and walker should have gotten the job.

How narcissistic of you.  I made the comment completely independent of what anyone else has said.  I don't care what you think about TT or the hire or anything else really.

Theus got hired at Cal-State Northridge.

http://sundial.csun.edu/2013/04/former-nba-head-coach-reggie-theus-hired-by-csun/

Can't believe he didn't get a better look. He was outstanding at NMSU. I would have taken him to replace Frank in a heartbeat.

@coachbruceweber: Congrats to Texas Tech on hiring of Tubby Smith. He is great addition to the Big 12. You can't get a better representative for basketball.

No one had ONE bad thing to say about him!

I never minded Steve at Iowa. Plus, the amount of butthurt Hawks in the last week has been enjoyable. Really hope ISU can schedule a game vs UCLA soon.

My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

to be fair, he did win more games than Isaiah had the previous two years.
