good move by smart.  ncsu is a crap job.  vcu will pay 1 million.  his value won't go down from where it is now.

his value won't go down from where it is now.

Not sure how you'd come to that conclusion. His value, relative to where he is, has nowhere to go but down.

I would think that if Shaka doesn't win next year, or the year after, it will be very easy to write him off as his team catching fire from 3 for a few games in a row during the time in NCAA ball that happened to see the least impressive upper echelon teams since the beginning of the tournament.   :dunno:

That said, I understand that there will always be an AD willing to take a flier on a guy who has coached a FF game.

NCSU is only a crap job from a fan expectation perspective.   If NCSU fans ever join the real world and just demand NCAA tourney appearances, 1 out of every 4 or 5 against Duke and UNC, and the occasional deep NCAA tourney run, it's like I said in another post earlier, they'd do themselves a great service.    It's almost like they don't get that the NCAA tourney takes 64 teams now, and that you don't have to win the ACC tournament to make the NCAA tourney.

Shaka staying at VCU per Doyel

pffftttt, career suicide if he does

weird. Jacobsen, Stevens, That dude from Richmond, now Smart. Why don't they want bigger jobs?

How many mid-major guys end up panning out at bigger jobs?

Why not get paid about a million a year and coach in the Valley while being treated like a God?

Yeah, 810 said that Shaka is getting $300K right now.

He needs to jump now.

Okay, at the very least, the dude needs to go to UNLV or something.

Agree with this part, but NCSU is a guarantee that you'll fail.   Most of the jobs right now suck, makes sense to sit tight a year and hope for better.

The addition of twitter has made this much more volatile than the Huggins meltdown.

Who is our foremost expert and interpreting tweets?  I want them monitoring players/media/player's family/recruits tweets around the clock.

I always thought SD was the tweet expert after reading the "Enjoy the band" thread

just because every announcer this month has filled vcu game air time talking about how hot a candidate smart is doesn't mean it's true.  he's viewed as a flash in the pan, wasn't the first choice for any opening this year.  was at best, the first fallback for the worst high-major job to open.

Mike Krzyzewski, John Calipari, Bill Self, Jim Calhoun, etc.

What's VCU's record under Smart?

How many mid-major guys end up panning out at bigger jobs?

Mike Krzyzewski, John Calipari, Bill Self, Jim Calhoun, etc.

I'm looking at more of a percentage here.

Also, Calipari doesn't really count.  The guy went from UMass to the NBA, then to Memphis, and then to Kentucky.

And everyone was basically mid-major when K and Calhoun ascended to their current jobs.  Come on, dude.

Self is legit.
