I have seen Drew on Reddit a bunch. Other than winning, Drew seems like the exact opposite of a Kentucky coach to me.

Lots of Evangelicals there. The question is: if Drew goes to UK, does Tang go to Baylor?

I would imagine the answer to that question is 100%, give or take 0%.
I wonder if Drew even wants Kentucky? He already won a title, and I wonder if he’s content in a small town and conservative campus. I hope he uses it for a raise, and finishes out at Baylor.

Should be some solid meltdown takes here today:

https://www.iheart.com/live/espn-680-louisville-6630/
One of the hosts just proclaimed "Tang is dying to get out of KState and I can't believe he didn't take the Arkansas job."

Alrighty then.

People talk out of their ass, a lot
Completely agree. I started ignoring the Louisville homers at that point.

What's Tang's buyout on his new contract?

What's Tang's buyout on his new contract?

The 3maw episode that came out yesterday said the details of the new contract wont come with an official announcement from the athletic department but that eventually the information will be available.

With the transfer portal, and just how college basketball rosters are constructed in general, I don't understand how different UK could be from a job at which a coach has achieved a Final 4 before. Outside of salary. If you can win a national championship at Baylor (for instance) what would UK have to offer? Just seems like more boosters to piss off.

If I were a Kentucky fan I’d want the very best coach in the country. Who is the very best coach? I don’t know.

If I were a coach, I’d want two things. A guarantee to have the largest NIL in the country and the largest salary package (annual * guaranteed years) in the country.

Here's my rankings of who would achieve the most at Kentucky over the next 10 years (NC's, F4's, conference titles, etc.):

1. Dan Hurley
2. Jerome Tang
3. Mark Few
4. Jon Scheyer
5. Nate Oates
6. Scott Drew
7. Chris Beard
8. Bill Self
9. Sean Miller
10. Matt Painter

Any mistakes?

I think Hurley is probably the best given that he's in position to win back to back nattys tonight.  Oats assembled a final four team that probably played UCONN the toughest in the tourney for 35 minutes. Drew won a title at Baylor and seems to still be recruiting at a really high level in the portal era.

Hurley is the best coach in college basketball and it's not close.  I don't know if UK can get him, but you absolutely start there.

I would say so but Jay Wright is a heckuva silver medal if UK can get him.

Hurley's two year NCAA tournament run is one of the most impressive accomplishments in the modern era of college basketball.  In a giant, single-elimination tournament that is known for it's randomness, UConn has blown out everyone.  Even if you say the early rounds are against garbage, UConn is outscoring opponents by over 20 in the S16 and beyond the past two seasons.  It's unreal.

I don't think what Hurley's done tops Wright's last 9 seasons. Wright won the Big East 7 out of those 9 years, and the years he finished second he won an NCAA title and got a Final Four. Hurley's had two absolutely ridiculous tourney runs, but I'm not sure if that's bad luck early in last season and his prior seasons or what. I'd say it's debatable at least.

I'd be shocked if Jay Wright left Nova to retire and then brought himself out of retirement to put himself into one of the biggest fish bowls in CBB.

Some people just don’t know what to do with themselves in retirement. I could see it from that perspective.

Part of the reason I like Hurley is that he's doing it with NIL and the transfer portal.  I feel like several former HOF caliber coaches didn't want to adjust to the changes and some current ones are having trouble adjusting, while Hurley is consistently kicking ass.  Wright certainly has a longevity/consistency edge.

Once you hit the desk with Chuck, you don't want to go back.  That looks like a great retirement.
