hey ETP, lets post an image of a laptop without a serial port. lmao, gmafb, tia.

I still write software that uses the serial port
Die in a fire.

Fully support Saul on this one.

Meh - pretty standard in industrial-type applications.  Cheap, easy, and (in relative terms) fairly standard.  Do not hate.

Standard with a certain type of product in my industry too.  Doesn't mean I have to like it.

the world is leaving folks who rely on serial ports behind.

If you can't make it work on a usb port, gtfo.

What makes it really fun for me is that this specific line I mentioned above can be used with a usb converter, but only one usb converter that I or the manufacturer has tested will work reliably.  mumped up.

Hate anyone still supporting this bull crap.

I feel the same way about 32 bits, 720p, and Windows XP users.

sd - make sure the laptop you purchase has no usb ports and at least three serial ports.  preferably with a midi port - often times people cheap out on the ability to hook up their keytar and other devices and regret it.

I think the first HP saul linked is the one unless something super hot is discovered or the ENVY announces updated processors in the next week

A 1366x768 resolution on a 15" laptop would absolutely kill me. Your Evo is over half that.

 :horrorsurprise:
Ignore that, bro.

Do not ignore. The screen is the thing you are most apt to regret buying.
It's a 15" screen.  WGAF.  :ck:

So you can fit more stuff on your screen? So it doesn't look like ass? So you can watch HD movies and actually have it be HD (Do not get bluray if you get that laptop, sd)?

It's not an HDTV. You're not sitting across the room from it. When it's right in front of your face, you're gonna see every pixel.

My laptop has a 14" screen and only displays at 1366x768, and it hasn't bothered me a bit. I have a nice monitor for my desktop, and my laptop usually just gets used for web surfing. Really though, it plays games just fine, at a higher resolution than an Xbox 360 or PS3 does. I guess if I didn't have a nice desktop, the screen resolution on my laptop would be more important, but to me, a laptop that is thinner than a quarter, plays modern games, and costs less than $1,000 seems like a good deal.

I will agree that buying a blu ray drive with a screen that displays less than 1080p is just Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!), though.

You are not going to see every pixel on a 15" 1366x768 screen, that is just beyond Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) to say. If that was the case, you could see pixels on a 32" 720p TV from about 30 feet.

Dude, if you're watching at a 32" screen from 30' away, you took the wrong path in life at some point.

Seriously, does Timberline STILL require a serial dongle?

No, you are beyond Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). Comparing a 15" screen that is a foot in front of your face to a 32" tv that is 30' away? Are you rough ridin' serious? You're gonna get a eff ton of jaggies on a shitty screen like a 1366x768. People arguing against this have very obviously not used a good screen. There is no going back to a phone resolution on a laptop.

Hope you don't get a stuck pixel, or it's gonna be huge. I can't even see one on my old 17" 1920x1200 laptop.

Not Timberline.  I have actually never used Timberline.

I am talking about a specific line of hardware we use a lot in our work.  Product in the field type thing.  Something that is part of the finish product we specialize in.  It is actually the main interface for the customer/user to utilize what we build.

Left the GC gig recently and went the specialty route.  Less stress, same money, more time at home.  Best decision I have made professionally.  That said, I do miss building really cool crap.

I have a 16 inch of that resolution now.  am I going to see a difference?

16" with 1920x1200? Yeah that will be a big difference going down to any other resolution. IMO the sweet spot is 1600x900 for smaller/portable laptops, because my work lappy is 1920x1200 15" and everything is so damn small on it.

You're going to hate every minute of it. 1600x900 is the lowest I'd go on a 15-16". Unfortunately, almost all the ones that include a higher resolution are business or professional laptops (ie, not that attractive). I think some Sonys have higher res screens, but isn't that what you have now?

this thing kinda looks medium non ugly and has a high res screen but is more than the HP and has less RAM.  Also, I think the video card may be crappier than the HP but I don't understand how to read video cards very well.
