So you can fit more stuff on your screen? So it doesn't look like ass? So you can watch HD movies and actually have it be HD (Do not get bluray if you get that laptop, sd)?

It's not an HDTV. You're not sitting across the room from it. When it's right in front of your face, you're gonna see every pixel.

Does your laptop have an HDMI out? That's the easiest way to connect it to your tv. Then you can just shove in your tv storage, or where ever. Done. Some cool software is available for HTPC use. Check out Boxee, Hulu desktop, BeyondTV, and even windows media center is pretty good.

Meh - pretty standard in industrial-type applications. Cheap, easy, and (in relative terms) fairly standard. Do not hate.
