Spradling, Canada, or Nick.  If he was better than those guys right now he would be a top 5 PG in high school.

All of those three would absolutely destroy it if they were still playing high school ball right now.

The point is that nobody like Mike Beasley, Bill Walker, or Josh Selby are going to be walking through our door before next fall.  Don't get your hopes up.  Our team is already here.

You just compounded your original mistake by bringing Beasley, Walker, and Selby into this mess.

elaborate.  Please.  I don't mind being made a fool.

You think only a top 5 HS PG could come in and compete for PT next season?

I was wrong.  It's 4/13/2011 - 5/18/2011.  Those were next year's dates.

No. I think Angel can compete for PT.  But do I think he will be better than what we already have and will get much time? No. If he does earn minutes it will be fantastic.

But I also don't think the freshman version of Jacob Pullen would get much time competing with this group for PT.  We have some decent guards.  We need bigs.

The funny, sad, unexpected part about this is early in the season I felt like we were heavy on the bigs.  Wally not turning out and a stagnating Jamar changes everything.  Kudos to JO for improving though.  Most improved, IMO.

I'd like to think that Gipson who had 6 total major conference school offers would be able to come in and do something.

Sure.  But are you anywhere near as hopeful about his freshman year as you were about Wally or Freddy this year?

I'm not... but maybe it works out this time where we are like "oh, they might be alright" and then they turn out to be pretty good. Like the opposite of Freddy and Wally.

No, because Wally was a 5 star. Gipson is a 3 star. Obviously I do not have the same expectations. However I do think he will provide better minutes than you are expecting.

you start with two guys that can hit 40% of 3s on 100 attempts each.  or 35% on 200 attempts.

you have to find out who else can score with the defenses spread out to cover those guys, but that's not a bad way to start a team.

I think Gipson will struggle a little next year but I think he will also show some positive signs. He's going to be a good player for us down the road imo.

Sprads is a nice complimentary point guard, but I think we've seen enough to know he's not Pullen or Clemente.  We need either a top flight transfer or Angel to be the guy to fill that role for us, because I don't see it on the roster.  That's not to say it won't happen, because if one thing has been consistent is that Frank finds a way to address needs.

Being the leader doesn't mean you have to be the best player.  It just means you have to command the attention and respect of your teammates.  Being a great player helps, but isn't a requirement.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Next year will be very interesting. I think Kelly was underrated defensively but our post defense should still be good. I like JO a lot. He's actually a lot better at changing shots without making dumb fouls than I could ever imagine he would be. He's got a chance to be a really good player next year. Jamar needs to figure out someway to stay out of foul trouble because our post depth is terrifying. I love the length of Southwell, he can help out somewhat in post defense help and we really need him to make a big time progression to next year because we have a huge need for his skill set.

The question has been and will continue to be point guard. I think frank's found his answer in a rodz but it'll be some sort of combo of him and myles and whoever else for next year. Lack of a dynamic playmaker at the PG spot probably puts a pretty definite ceiling on this team again, although I still think it'll be a better year than most people think. Get a couple difference makers in the '12 class and the season after next could be another big year.

He's not Pullen or Clemente, but I think he can put up numbers similar to Pullen's sophomore season next year. He just won't get them the same way Pullen did, just like Pullen didn't put up numbers the same way Clemente did. chum has a great point - every FM team has been wildly different, but have all been pretty successful.

I could not care less about "leadership".
I agree with the first comment, but I disagree with the "leadership" point.  I think having a player-leader is important, particularly with Frank's style of coaching.  Don't get me wrong, I love Frank and his style, but he rides his players like rented mules and clearly takes less of an "encouragement" approach and more of a "WHAT THE eff ARE YOU THINKING!?!?" approach.  Seems like it's important to have a leader amongst the players that can take the former approach and give the guys a "rah-rah" after Frank verbally kicks their ass.  I dunno, just seemed like every time they showed the huddles and Frank would implement the "stare TO", it would always be Jake or Clemente before him to give a couple claps and some encouragement that would snap Frank out of it and get them to stop pouting.

I guess it just seems like it would be really rough ridin' hard to take that kind of constant verbal abuse from a coach unless there was a "leader" on the team that everyone respected to balance it out with a different approach.

Not sure why nobody thinks angel can step in and be that guy next yr.  Pitino was after AR hard and said that KSU got a steal landing this guy as he is a under the radar pg.  He also said that as soon as AR touches the floor in his eyes will be the best pg in the nation!!

I think people are undervaluing Spradling's role on the team next year.  He's going to average at least 10 points a game because he's going to nearly be doubling his three point attempts.

I think McGruder ends up being a 14/6 guy, and Spradling's going to average at least ten points a game.  Frank is going to go bomb's away with those guys.

If Samuels and JHR can average at least 10 points a piece per game between them, and we can get at least five points a game from Southwell, That's about 50 points right there a game from your starters.  Get a few here and there from AR-T, Gipson, Irving, Russell, Nino, etc., and I think we'll get our points.

If the team can continue to play good defense, that will make you a bubble team right there.

What are people expecting out of Nino? Was it really concussion issues that kept him out this year?

Didn't we redshirt him.....?
