How does KU have so few national championships?
« on: March 12, 2011, 10:31:52 PM »
ESPN just did a segment about how Kansas owns the Big 12 in basketball, with all of their real and shared conference championships.  Yet, they have so few national championships relative to other schools with as many conference championships in the major conferences.

Is it because the rest of us in this conference are so bad?  I mean, Bob Knight has as many national championships as KU, and Roy Williams is personally tied with KU since the Eisenhower administration, and up until 2008 KU was tied with San Fransisco.

Are we all failing KU?  Maybe KU should leave this conference so they can get better prepared and not fail so much in the NCAA tournament?  Ideas?

With they amount of talent they have had the last 15 years or so they should have 15 titles, but they don't which is quite sad, really

It's so laughable that KU counts their helms titles as national championships.

KU is top five in NCAA tournament wins, Final Fours, and NCAA championships.  They're 2nd all-time in wins and 1st in conference championships.

Top 5 != 1st or 2nd, which is the point of this thread.

ku, while a fine program with a proud history does indeed underperform the majority of the time which begs this question.  I have the answer to this mystery.  First we must acknowledge that their program has been very good and I will not in anyway argue that point.  Next ku fans must realize that for the last 25 years there has been little resistence from our conference.  The north has never been competitive and represents 2/3 of ku's conf. schedule ( hard to lose a title when you start out 10-0 or 9-1 every year before you play the south)  Texas, ou, and osu have put together some squads, and to be honest isu, mizzou, and ksu of very recent history have competed at times.  So what we have here is a team that rarely challenges itself in the non-con, wins conf titles, everybody thinks they are as good as their untested record, and then they perform like a 33-2 mid-major every year in march.  It really is this simple.  One byproduct of this decieving annual dance is that it helps recruiting constantly being ranked high, but they still eff it up
it’s not like I’m tired of WINNING, but dude, let me catch my breath.

It goes to show how much of a random crapshoot the NCAA tournament is.  Really need to go to double elimination to get a true champion.

One reason is....they don't have big 12 officiating to coddle them once they get to the dance.

Take away the fake titles and the ones they couldn't defend due to cheating.  How many does that leave them with?  Pathetic for such a "storied" program.

Last year was a huge disappointment for me, obviously. It is tough to win six games in a row against good competition but the second round losses really sting. Overall our success in the tournament isn't bad, though. 85-38 tournament record, 13 final fours, and three national championships. If we play the entire tournament like we did against Texas last night we will have another final four appearance. Big if, though.

If you are really worthy of a 1 or 2 seed, your first three games should be layups, automatic elite 8 and then find out what you are made of in the last 3.  In my opinion with few exceptions 1-2 seeds that don't make the elite 8 are frauds, and if the shoe fits  :ck:

I think it's adorable, on par with your 25 year old nephew recounting winning his school's 3rd grade spelling bee.

It's so adorable that North Carolina does it too.

I will say that the lack of elite competition within the Big XII hurts KU. What can we do though? We found out over the summer that we're stuck with you losers and there's nothing we can do about it. Sucks. I guess we'll just have to stick with making a final four only a couple times a decade and dominating the conference every single year.
