Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

really wish that ksufans was still around so i could pull up jmarts quote that frank would be here for 4 years only, win a bunch of games and then bounce. would make this more fun.

I don't make much of a millionaire's attorney on retainer paying him a visit.  Maybe, he is discussing other offers, doesn't matter to me & I'm sure its going to happen.  I don't expect Frank to be here for 10+ years.  If he leaves I prefer he leaves like this & not fired.  He's done way more than any if us expected, if he decides to take his talents to Raleigh, I'll just be thankful for the many fist pump moments & the practice facility.

do you really believe all this? i mean all of it? i mean, he was in austin. he was in mhk this weekend. maybe it's something, maybe it's nothing. if he is discussing offers w/ frank like you suggested, how can it not matter to you? you seem to be pretty opinionated on things in general, but you pick this to not have an opinion on? seems weird. no? agree on everything else that you said.

I do have an opinion.  My opinion is that he's gonna leave at some point.  After this season seems like a good time for him.  As a program, if you're going to lose a coach might as well be when you have momentum, a nucleus of kids that are going to be juniors & sophs, and dirt moved on new facilities.

I don't think Katz being around is some sort of bat signal of doom, but if he's here to eventually take Frank, I'd rather it be like this instead of a situation where he overstayed his welcome.

Katz' website also lists Denis and Lou as clientele. Maybe he is just getting some things prepared for Jake or Curt...........................or Delonte

Frank's never leaving.  Remember, he cried at his press conference after the extension. This is is home now. He is home. He thinks we are the best fans in the country. His wife cried on that one CBS thing talking about how much she loves Manhattan. He's never leaving. Love you Frank.

After this season seems like a good time for him.

I don't think his stock will ever be higher, so I'm in full agreement on that point.  But I don't think he's the kind of guy that's going to jump unless it's a really, really desirable spot/location.

I think the coaching carousel this year will be pretty tame.  I don't think there will be a lot of significant openings that cause massive upheaval.  The big programs that really cause dominoes to fall look like they're pretty set for now.  UCLA, Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Carolina, etc. all look pretty stable from a coaching perspective.  Given the removal or Rodriguez, I don't think Michigan removes Beilein yet.  Illinois probably gives Weber one more year.  NC St. looks like it's the best 'almost for sure' opening in the country, and I'm not sure that's really a big step up for Frank at this point (unless he and Currie don't get along).

Frank isn't dumb.  We'll extend him if necessary.  He's getting everything he's asked from a facilities standpoint.  He's leading an established program with complete job security.  It would appear his wife and family are happy here.  He's in a comfortable position to bide his time and swing for the fences for a really plumb job at some point.

I look at his career trajectory, and I see a Tom Crean kind of situation.  He'll have a good gig where he'll get paid well, have good job security, and win a lot, and in the event some elite job opens up, he may throw his name in the hat and get it after some really big name turns them down.

I agree with most of what you said, but there is no such thing as job security in coaching (unless you're LHC Bill Snyder). The better the job, the worse the job security.

I think we've established the precedent that we're more than willing to accept long stretches of mediocrity in basketball at this institution.

Given where we've been the last 20 years, if Frank averages an NCAA appearance 75% of the time he's our coach, we'll never, ever, ever let him go.

LHC Bill Snyder won one Big 12 title, and the stadium is named after him.  For us, good makes you great.

Well, that's a completely separate tangent that I won't go on, but unless we're talking about a very small handful of schools, and the money and prestige associated with those jobs, I'm not one to believe that it's worth leaving the situation you're in.

Billy Gillespie, Crean, Beilein, Tony Bennett, etc., etc.  All of those guys probably have some level of regret leaving their previous situations for where they're at now.  It's one thing to leave your mid-major job and head to a BCS conference, but once you get things rolling at a BCS school, you should really, really think hard about other offers.  It's not easy to parlay past success into future success unless you're stepping into a situation (like Ben Howland, Bill Self, Roy Williams, etc.) where success is pretty much handed to you with a bow tie attached due to the program you're taking over.  And even then, there's not guarantee it's going to work out for you (i.e. Gillespie).

This is much harder than you make it sound, and if Frank misses 2 consecutive NCAA's, his seat will be pretty hot.

I'm not saying it's not hard.  But I think he's capable of it.  He's recruiting at a level sustainable of bubble/tourney participant.

And, yes, two straight NIT's would get his seat 'hot'.  But it wouldn't be as hot here as it would be where he's making $2 million and change a year.

Don't want it but if its gotta be, then its gotta be. Come on down Billy G!

failed about as bad as is possible without intentionally trying to flame out in his time at the best coaching job in the country.  amazing how people ignore that and focus on a couple of years at some hillbilly school in texas instead.

I don't know.  He had success at a few places.  You have to remember UK fans are as much if not more delusional then KU fans.  He crap all over their blue bloods.

two places.  both in texas, and both for short periods of time.  he didn't crap on bluebloods in kentucky.  he lost games and offered scholarships to mid-major players.
