Jake shows up for the big boys of B12 while Marcus hides...
« on: March 02, 2011, 11:34:04 PM »
Marcus Morris is avg 13ppg and 6 rpg vs. top 4 of the Big 12.

Jake?  Only 25ppg and 45% from 3.

No need to even discuss which one of these players is ballz out on defense.  Marcus will give you the occasional weakside blocked shot and then stare...though JO is still laughing as he backed him up to the hoop and made a practice type lay up.

Hmmm...POY?  He looked scared tonight vs. aTm's bigs.

Academics is a stupid word.

Academic schools are synonymous for being rich, powerful and exclusive, three things Kansas State is not.

So when people throw the word "academics" around, that's really what they are referencing.

no need to worry trip F, we will always be bff.  you fought the jordy-type battles w/ me going way back to hornfans (pre-blacklist days).

btw...more on Morris-Pullen #'s.  It is truly amazing how much Marcus hides when he's guarded by the big boys.

Marcus played against 2, 3, & 4 while Pullen played against 1, 2, & 3 (sticking w/ the top 4 because nobody else has enough of everything to be a factor).

3 of the 4 games for Marcus were in the cozy confines of home @ Allen while our little Jake stuck out his chest and challenged the fierce opposition in 3 of 4 constests on the road.

Comparing both of their averages vs. their overall conference stats (forget non-con...don't really care what Marcus did to cacty Longwood, etc)

Marcus

FG % vs. all big 12 - .618 (102-165)
FG % vs. top 4 - .463 (19-41)

Jake
FG % vs. all big 12 - .420
FG % vs. top 4 - .417

Jake only drops .3% while Marcus is embarrasing dropping over 15%!!!

3FG%  (yes, realize bigs don't shoot many 3's but Marcus especially doesn't against top 4, even though KU fans WOWED by Marcus range)

Marcus
3FG % vs. all Big 12 - 30% (9-30)
3FG % vs. top 4 - 0% (0-5)

Jake
3FG % vs all Big 12 - .398
3FG % vs top 4 - .448

Once again, Marcus is an embarrassment to KU fans vs. heavy competition.  Nada on the range vs real teams while lil Jakey up 5 full percentage points!

Rebounding?

Marcus crashes into Buffs and Cyclones w/ fury like no other and gets 7.4 RPG but when it's time to put on big boy shoes he's down to 6 RPG.  The sight of a Jordan Henriquez-Roberts type warming up on the other end has him heading for the locker room!

PPG?

Marcus

vs all big 12 - 18.6ppg
vs top 4 - 13ppg

Jakey
vs all big 12 - 21.7 ppg
vs top 4 - 25 ppg

Again, Marcus is an embarrassment if he runs into a villianous big wearing burnt orange, Aggie Maroon, or Purple & black or grey.  Marcus PPG down a whopping 30% by 5.6 ppg.  Jakey goes yard against the best pitchers and increases point productivity by 15%!!

Conclusion...big time players make big time plays in big time games.  Marcus is just not very POY-ish

Somebody that tweets or whatever needs to get this to all the talking heads so they have a talking point. Could gain steam.

Pullen deserves Big 12 POY... I've never argued otherwise.  The only way someone else wins it is if the voters place an emphasis on overall team success.  I will say that the stats are a little misleading, though, mainly because both games against K-State were blowouts.  Marcus only played 24 minutes in each matchup, scoring 10 points and grabbing 9 rebounds against K-State in AFH, while putting up 13 and 3 in Manhattan.  In contrast, Pullen averaged 35 minutes a game against the top 4 in the league.  The bottom line is that the comparison is apples to oranges.

k.  I'll make it apples to apples

pp minute top 4
jake = .71
MM = .47

pp minute all big 12
jake = .63
MM = .63

Marcus

FG % vs. all big 12 - .618 (102-165)
FG % vs. top 4 - .463 (19-41)

Jake
FG % vs. all big 12 - .420
FG % vs. top 4 - .417

Jake only drops .3% while Marcus is embarrasing dropping over 15%!!!

It's actually a 25% decrease (15 percentage points) in Marcus' fg% while Jake drops less than 1%.   Great argument for Jake
