This different color turf was done specifically for Harley Day, they didn't think the Harley's could ride through the gameday turf, so the endzones are just plain outdoor carpet.

Can confirm. Still don't understand why they felt a motorcycle could drive on the regular turf, but I suspect it was cheaper and Currie didn't want to spend the money since there was a chance it could get torn up.

They will eventually.  Included in the "cheaper" part of Phase 3. FWIW

Refresher from last summer: Need to keep asphalt around the field for TV trucks, EMS vehicles etc to drive on, there was concern that using same infill product would create a lip between field and asphalt area. The examined black turf there, medical staff was concerned about heat, AthDept eventually decided to use as close a green shade as possible with plain AstroTurf. As mentioned, eventually other two sides will be done this way so  it won't look as noticeable. On gamedays it is more difficult to notice anyways. Zero to do with Harley Day.

Just as a point of clarification, the majority of football stadiums at the college level and NFL don't have hard paved surface lining the field.  The field is typically extended to the field wall.

Vehicles like a tv broadcast dolly or an ems cart have turf tires, which are of no issue on the playing surface..

While K-State may like the track for a number of things like Harley day (which is fine) there is no functional "need" to keep the asphalt at all, in reality.

Yeah, 909 is right.  Sure, asphalt may be a little (or a lot, I don't know) more convenient, but hell, other stadiums don't have asphalt.

Plus, Oregon's duck rides his Harley on the grass.  I'm sure our guys' "hogs" could handle it.
