pete uses a lot of "quotation marks" in his posts, good grief.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

couldn't Currie have been like "Manbeck has no clue what he is talking about..." and move on?

Architecture firms are full of dumbshits who don't know dick about business.  Populous (stupid name) probably bid way more than Heering (stupid name) who probably bid the project at a loss but thinks they are making money.

It doesn't rough ridin' matter, some intern in the autocad dept is going to design it and then it will be put together by guys who wash down their QT taquito lunch with a 6pack of beast.

The only real mystery here is how they plan to spend $80 million on concrete and seats.

Heery is an engineering based firm that typically teams up with others to do some collegiate work in the mostly the SouthEast.

It's pretty obvious some sort of quid pro quo is in play here. Which IDGAF because it happens all the time in every industry but he really has hung himself if they do a less than satisfactory job and or they don't come through for him on what he wants in return.

THIS.

That's all I'm saying.  If it's nice, we'll all suck his dick.  If not, we'll fly the banner.  Win-win, IMO.

....won't be hard to find "anonymous" donors for that campaign.   :fatty:

First off, you have no idea how many dumbshits are in this industry. MEP guys are doing a great job of keeping fees firm. Architects would work for free just to get the other guy out of business. It's killing us.

And the $50 million will be spent on steel, glass, and mexicans. Steel is going up in price.

They better use Revit and not Autocad, fwiw.

You know the PAKhead laser concept that has been discussed in regards to press box expansion? This is a perfect move because the lasers will beam down to give our players SEC speed. Ever think of that before getting butthurt over Populous, squawks?

Populous had specs with double pakhead lasers, in 3D.

It's important to note that the ultimate plan at KSU is likely much larger than the press box - multiple phases including updates to the entire stadium over several years, with the west side being just the first phase.  Those are the rumblings I've heard, FWIW.

Heery has worked on projects like this many times - UT, Maryland, Arkansas, Clemson.  Look through their portfolio, and you'll see a lot of schools with similiar long-term facililty goals as KSU (supposedly) that ended up with great looking stadiums.  Maybe that experience is what helped push them over Populous.  Obviously Populous is a great firm, but when the full plans are announced, it might make sense why Heery was hired.

Just my two cents.  Either way, hope this turns out the best for K-State.  And if not, I'll be right there on the anti-ADJC bandwagon.

Dear architects and KSU athletic director,

I did a few hours of doodling & photoshop last night after daydreaming about how the stadium might turn out. This is what I came up with.

The facade blends traditional visual icons from around the campus with some of the modern feel seen on K-States athletic facilities such as the Vanier complex and the upcoming basketball practice facility. Basically the idea here is to create the "face of the university" that Mr. Currie is looking for. Also it is jam packed to the brim with limestone.

It features a big central glass thingy that looks from all levels onto a majestic limestone portico entrance which will be used by rich guys with box seats and things like that.  The proletariat are not left out however, as they now have a grand entrance on the south side of the complex that feeds not just the lower level and endzone seating, but also the northwest entrance into the OOD (pretty handy). Above the grand entrance is an indoor area that can be used for lounge or restaurant seating. To really spice it up, it also features a balcony (it's not visible in the pic silly) facing all the action on the field. WOW.

FAQ's:

Q: Do you even know how much this would cost? A: No, but Nebraska is building some godawful giant thing for $56 million supposedly, so I don't see how I could have gotten carried away. I mean didn't you guys just pocket $11 million from last fiscal year? Come on. (side note: to save costs I left the parking lot all crappy looking)

Q: I saw that last photoshop you did and you put new stadium lights on that picture. Where did they go? A: I forgot and...meh. Listen, we all know where lights go. Also I was going to put some balconies and doors and stuff on the upper levels outside. Let's hope the real architects don't just shrug off that kind of thing like I do.

Q: Is that the school seal on the sidewalk? It looks all warped from the perspective. A: Yes. ...Yes it does. I'm hoping it may possibly become Steve Dave's new location for beat downs. This was put into the planning stages early on. (about 7pm last night)

Q: Boakai, do you even know wtf you are doing? A: No. And this is the whole point really. You architects and athletic directors actually know what you are doing, so you better do a way better job and be innovative and new and clever. Someone posted pics of Maryland's facilities and man is it boring and unattractive. Talk about what a waste of money that would be. Can you imagine the Dax rants over the next 15 years? The worlds supply of alliteration would probably run out. :shy:

Q: I absolutely hate the bush league photoshop attempt you have brought forth on this morning. What should I do about it? A:  :ck: I guess PI me into oblivion.  :frown:

In closing. Do good.

Go Cats,
Boakai

Currie is genius.  Instead of having one EMAW firm that he can exploit, he's going to convert Heery into an EMAW firm so he has two that he can exploit.  And LOL at all the boners who are crying that not going with Populous is a mistake before they even see a rough ridin' rendering.

Since KSU is working on finding a major donor or two to kickstart this project, I wonder if they'll run into opposition by not hiring Populous.

I'm pretty sure that was my point. If Ron Prince were still coach, the tucks wouldn't be donating anything and not going with Populous would just be the excuse of the day.

Yes and yes. Lots of Architects doing jobs right now just to break even or even loose money just to have something current in their portfolio. Fees here on the structural side have held pretty steady as well.  We have architects willing to pay us a higher fee just because we use Revit and they don't. Apparently they just like the eye candy because we're not using the revit model for bim in most cases. We give them a fee, they like it, we mention we use Revit, and then they offer us more money.

I was looking at it from another angle. So many higher up KSU donors have been raised with the KSU inbred mentality of Wefald for so many years, that I wonder if by NOT going with an EMAW group such as Populous that they might put up resistance to donating $$$.

Yeah, I can understand the concern, but I wouldn't be worried. LHC Bill Snyder is coach, and that is all that matters to them.
