Ahearn could actually be renovated quite nicely for volleyball if they were the only program using the building. I'd hate to see it demolished.

If they renovated Ahearn it would cost just as much, if not more than building a new, smaller facility. That building is an ADA nightmare and it's horrible for volleyball. It most likely won't get demolished, Gene said that it belongs to the university and athletics would give it back to them.

Well that makes sense, but... what do you do with it then? Does it become like Nichols Hall where the exterior remains, but essentially a new structure, with all kinds of rooms staircases, and perhaps a performance venue is built inside the shell?
Would make more sense or at least be cheaper short term to use for rec/club sports

i would just turn the whole place into the ahearn field house shot bar.  imagine how drunk you could get in a bar that size, amazing.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

K-State will ask the Regents to amend the FY 2020 facilities list to add the South Endzone Project next week.

Price tag:  Just under $50 million all paid for with private gifts

I think Gene said they're shooting for completion for the start of the 2021 Football Season.

Will be interesting to follow these attendance numbers across CFB and specifically K-State, over the next few years, and even more so the next 5-10 years. Obviously also noting how good/bad teams are, but still.

While I think BSFS is close to the perfect size, I could see an opportunity in 10 years or so to tear down the east side and build a smaller, but much nicer and fan friendly structure. Maybe cutting capacity by 3-5k, with a much smaller upper deck that has great fan amenities, nice seating, or something along those lines.

Even Alabama is going to drop capacity by nearly 1,000 seats in their next round of renovations.   Not a huge dent, but they need to make room for more amenities in the stadium.

Yeah, but that stadium also holds over 100k. I always thought our stadium should be right around 55k, with the ability to hold close to 60k on those big game nights. That's not a huge increase from where we are now, which is why I'm a little disappointed the SEZ project isn't adding a few more seats.

kstate should make that east side upper deck nothing but visitor seats and ridiculously cheap townie tickets. they're horrible seats.

I've never sat up there. What makes them so terrible?

It's windy and the sound doesn't really travel up there. You feel isolated from the rest of the stadium.

while i don't disagree with any of this the view of the playing surface is phenominal.

if you actually want to watch the game they present a great viewpoint

lickneckey is correct in that you can see the field and the plays as they unfold and it's a pretty decent view of what's happening on the field. ie-this receiver was wide open and the qb didn't see him.

lib is correct in that those seats are ridiculous windy and isolated. it's like you aren't even in the stadium. they are just not fun or comfortable, at least not for me. I hated the two times I sat up in them.

East side upper deck is great for when you know the outcome of the game in advance and just want to watch the game, the plays develop, etc.

Really sucky for a competitive game when you want to be a part of the atmosphere, excitement, etc.

I grew up sitting in the second row of the upper deck.  I really enjoyed those seats.

Dr. Rick Daris is right about LickNeckey being right.

The upper deck provides fantastic views of the field and the ability to really see what's going on with the game. However, you can't hear the band and you feel outside of the rest of the crowd.

When you are sitting in the upper deck, the crowd sounds about as loud as it does when you are watching a game on tv. There is no excitement for big plays. I would rather be in the end zone seats where you can't see half of what is going on, but you are practically down on the field.

i'm 4th row south endzone. fun when there are plays on that side of the field and craptastic when there aren't. I usually watch the first half down there and then the second half somewhere else. it's almost like a two games in one combo bogo deal!
