So like, this basically confirms we're going to do another major renovation before KU can even afford to throw a new coat of paint on their bleachers, right?

They could probably embark on something as ambitious as our master plan, but they have two problems:

1) No donor that has the money to donate to a program that deep in the hole will unless they feel the money is worth the investment. From what I've read/heard, there's little faith that Zenger would spend it wisely. They want to see very tangible progress before committing anything, but it's creating a chicken/egg problem.

2) Those that have the money would rather donate to basketball because it's rolling right now with the streak, Self is still young(ish), and they're recruiting at a top 5 level. That monster requires constant and heavy feeding.

I think there's also a big problem in the sense that so much money would need to be spent on code updates and infrastructure the second they make a renovation that they will seriously have to spend money to get little visible improvement.

Honestly, their best bet is to tear Memorial down, play at Arrowhead for two years, and build new on that spot. But there's zero momentum to necessitate that.

Could you imagine the <10,000 fans at Arrowhead for every KU home football game?   :frown:  They are better off playing at Sporting Park.

Don't get the soccer fans all bent out of shape. Lawrence High I'm sure is more than adequate and on par with Memorial Stadium in terms of amenities and space they'll need.

Haskell isn't using its stadium any more. Plenty of seating (well enough for KU), conveniently located right off the 23rd Street connection to JoCo. Has a far classier look than Memorial. Alas, no hill.

True, speaking of connection to JoCo, I'm so excited to take that K-10 bypass around Larrytown next year on my way to Catz games next year. Should shave off like 10 minutes off the commute and save a buck on tolls

The tiered aspect would tie into the bram and would be accessible from it...from what I hear  :Lurk:

Also heard about connecting east to west but don't know if that would happen due to the increase in seats if it all was connected.

If it ties physically in with the Bram,  won't that mean they have to redo that facility as well to bring it up to new codes?  If I recall, that is why the BTF did not tie physically in with the Bram, due to the costs how it could impact that facility.

Maybe they believe big money will be more forthcoming for football from donors.  Or, maybe ADJC is just Jonesin' to do some serious fundraising after not having a huge project in the fires for a whole year.

I guess that's possible, but they've had to bring BSFS up to code, and I thought even with the BTF not being directly tied to Bramlage, all the stairs and whatnot around it would be enough to touch it. Maybe not, but I can't imagine a building, even if built in the 80s, would be as out of code with things today. Not saying that cost is insignificant, just probably not insane, especially given the price of everything else that would be done.

Not like one of their biggest donors isn't part owner of Sporting or anything..

How they gonna use the new cosmic bowling esq locker room then huh?

You can leave that there.  It's not attached to the stadium.

What Duke did with Wallace Wade would be perfect in Lawrence.  You keep the horseshoe, so they can keep their current video board and Anderson FC to save money, and they just bulldoze the stadium and build a nice 40k seat stadium that is really attractive and integrates with the campus atmosphere.

KU doesn't need 50k seats.  Acknowledge that they just want a relatively decent football team that doesn't compete with basketball for resources, isn't an embarrassment, and build something really pretty to convince JOCO folks to make the drive on a Saturday afternoon/evening.

right but was there ever a announcment or anything? Id say its hard to pitch the donors, show them the blueprints and then just never mention it again.

You create a master plan, and you periodically review it based on what donors are willing to give for now, what you really need, what the market dictates, etc.

Hotel space probably isn't a premium right now.  Maybe it will be, but now, it's probably not.

Sometimes when adding on to an existing building you can get away with spending a percentage of the "new" construction cost on ADA related upgrades vs. updating to All ADA requirements.  At the time of the BTF they probably looked at it as too much additional cost for the project, or it could of delayed the project longer than they wanted (who knows), tying the SEZ to the Bram would probably justify the additional cost on the code upgrades I'm guessing.

couldn't sleep last night from being so hungover all weekend, so I threw together a professional mspaint south EZ reno in about 10 minutes.

it's part WSC, parts Vanier 2.0, parts Ole Miss reno, parts LSU reno, etc. (the training table part thingy is a banquet/ballroom thing connected to the legends room)

Dang! The tents at the bottom! That should bring all of the KU haters on board. It's basically the hill, but with seats and a couple tents.
