That's entirely different. A fire juggler is choosing to juggle fire knowing the danger. Someone standing close enough to be caught on fire also knows the danger.

Thanks 60.  Yeah, I don't wish anybody ever to get assaulted (well, maybe Dominic Raiola or Ndamukong Suh, but that is completely different and probably warranted).

It's good to see students and teachers back at Anderson Family Elementary School for the new school year.  The place looks so lonely during the summer.

The Old Vanier Complex was 63,000 square feet.   Anderson Football Center is 80,000 square feet.   But in KU fan world the AFC was WAAAY beyond Old Vanier.

The Booth Press Box has about 10 more suites than the old Dev Nelson Pressbox, but in KU fan world it was WAAAY beyond what we had.    Let's put it this way, the Booth Press Box and a bunch of other work on Memorial Stadium cost $30 million, the West Stadium Center cost $89 million all by itself.   You can put nearly 2 Booth Press Boxes into the West Stadium Center.

Again, they're comparing program  Camry's just off lease with leather and a sun roof, to brand new Bentleys.

The big projects for KSU have been West Stadium ($81 M) and the new Vanier Complex ($65 M). Between those two and other Football stuff, we are probably Around $150 Million "behind." However, Those two projects brought facilities up to the level (And in some areas surpassed) what Kansas already had. So it is hardly a fair comparison.

Their new Vanier complex is their main Athletic Department facility, so it should be better compared to the Anderson Strength Complex, Wagnon Student-Athlete Center, and everything else behind AFH. Kansas has and still has world class facilities available to all student athletes. Kansas State just entered out level. So compare that to our current Football Facility, and the current Student Athlete facilities behind AFH. Their new facility has the "new" feel, and it is very nice, but Kansas has had comparable facilities for years. New stuff always has the "fresh coat of paint" but no one should feel that we are horribly behind on that. They just happen to put theit facility by the Football stadium, and it has gained the benefit of that proximity.
The West Stadium complex is pretty clearly surpassing our 1999 era press box facility, but again. It is hardly a fair comparison. We aren't "behind" the full value of that project. Our current facility was way beyond what they had, they "caught up" and surpassed. They are also benefited by the fact their "Bowl" is sunken, so the concourse level got the benefit of a complete rebuild under the new West Stadium Center.

Also, take in to account that Kansas is around $40 Million in debt, and Kansas State as of last year (before the Vanier Complex) was around $80 Million. I don't know if they used any bonds for the Vanier or not, either way, they are twice as much in debt, and the future of their Athletic Revenue is much more in the air than Kansas. If the Big 12 hits the fan, and Ol' Balls packs it up, that surplus used to pay of long term debt vanishes pretty quickly. They have literally sold their future with the hope the investment lands them in a good conference. They aren't the only one, the reason that so many Big 12 schools are doing the improvements they are is for that very reason. They have the money, the revenue, and the interest now that might not be there in 5 years.

Either way, Kansas is in a pretty good position for some pretty serious $200+ Million project, in the next few years. We have a very low debt load, haven't had or asked for much Athletic donations recently, and we are already a top 25 revenue earner, and that will only get better. KU Athletics has the cash on hand, the bonding ability and the potential to raise a few million TODAY that could get a $60+ Million Phase 1 project off the ground even without winning. My hope is that there is at least SOME progress shown this year that means we are in the right direction and we can break ground on SOMETHING in December. There is absolutely no reason that should not happen, even if we win one game.
With all that said, announcing a move to the Big 10 would probably get any project off the ground tomorrow.

They're saving those for the Big 10 when they can finally start getting serious about football.

The buildup for that herculean Memorial Stadium renovation project has been tremendous.   I'm being conservative here but I'd say earnest discussion of that project began about ten years ago.   It really has been a study in getting things done quickly.    They've been waiting for that big check from one of their wealthy alums for a long, long time now.
