I like it.    Looks a lot better than the previous stuff.  Plus, it will look really cool for awhile because those pellets take time to settle so crap will fly all over the place when dudes hit the turf.

I'm going to seem like a downer, but I hope that's not what it looks like.  I don't want it to look like an office building.  I hope they limestone it up a bit.  It needs to be somewhat decorative.  I don't want them to go all K-Stateo and make this thing look like a giant office building.

Lane Stadium Renovation

Lane Stadium at Virginia Tech is one of the only collegiate football stadiums in the country that comprehensively combines seating, ticketing offices, museum space, student-athlete academic enhancement/classroom areas and an array of lounges in one facility.

The design concept in renovating the west sideline was to create a visual identity for Lane Stadium and harmonize with the surrounding campus buildings. Architectural detailing is derived from the Collegiate Gothic style prevalent on the VT campus. The exterior is articulated with "Hokie Stone" — a limestone mined from a quarry near campus and used on all surrounding campus buildings.

The addition is the new front door for athletics as well as the entire campus, as it is near the major highways that bring visitors into campus. The arched entry pays tribute to the existing campus architecture with its inviting gesture to the history of Virginia Tech sports. The addition incorporated 166,000 new square feet; this space provides a variety of revenue streams for athletics while offering fans an enhanced game-day experience. In addition to 778 indoor club seats and a club lounge, the new space also includes 23 suites. Virginia Tech's pride in its rich traditions is conveyed in the interior finish scheme through the strong influence of team colors (Chicago maroon and burnt orange); darker wood stains create a rich overall finish palette.

Are there many modern press boxes/suite buildings that actually has stone veneer on the playing surface side of the structure?
And yes, this is a serious question. I can't seem to think of any.

I want someone to tell me why we shouldn't/couldn't have it.

We have $50 million to build a free standing structure.  VT built a castle for $42 million.  My standards will be high.

Any chance the NEZ gets wrap around bowl seating?  I forgot if that was part of the upper deck restrooms press box expansion package.

The absolute last thing we should do is add seats.

They wouldn't necessarily have to add to the seating capacity to bowl it.  There's no way with Vanier there that we could physically duplicate the bowl seating of the South end zone, but they could at least bowl it around in a smaller incarnation and make it look way more symmetrical and legit than what we have now in the End Zone Fun Zone.  It would suck to have to pour concrete over something we just constructed 5 years ago or whatever, but as it is now, it looks uneven and pretty weird/bushleague-y.  The Fung Shuieiiie of the stadium is way off. Would look way better if it were bowled to mimic the SEZ, with the same angles and grades and everything, just going up 17 rows or whatever instead of 45, and it wouldn't add a bunch more empty seats.  And of course there would have to be badass tunnels cut out of the stands for the teams to walk through and we could even get FOG MACHINES!!!

Keep in mind that I realize this will never happen, but it would look way better than the weirdness that is there now.

It actually probably will happen someday. Obviously the press box is the priority right now, but the AD is well aware how horrible the NEZ looks.

Also, Endzone Fun Zone or whatever the eff they are calling it wouldn't necessarily have to get poured over with concrete, they would just wrap around the edges to the sides of vanier, which still looks a bit weird but about three thousand times better than what we have now.

Our stadium will always look sort of weird though, no matter what. just because of how we built it and added on to it.

Only way you could me out on the golf course today is if was first thing in the morning.  This 100 degree crap is for the birds.
