Just watched it again.  Not only do I think this teacher won't be disciplined, I think he might become a cult hero among teachers for this.  He's railing on a class for failing and for insubordination and in response, they're all laughing at him.  He also complains about the class being overcrowded.

Politicians want to judge teachers on how well their students achieve.  This video does a fantastic job of showing the challenges that teachers have in meeting that goal.

FYI, I am not a teacher.

He spit on a 16 year old student, and when she complained, he kicked her out of the classroom.

But the video was a good illustration why corporal punishment should still be allowed.

But it's not allowed and for good reason.  The guy should get canned.

What's funny is how everyone thinks there's always one culprit responsible for bringing down the entire educational system.  

"It's the unions!  Get rid of those and everything will be fixed!"

It's also amusing to me that n00bs think that all schools of every demographic and geographic region are all the same.

I've got to completely disagree with Michigan's over zealous reaction to this incident.  I'm sure I'll be called a name but screw it.

There are two issues at play here.  The first is the teachers actions in todays world.  What he did was wrong, I don't think he did anything over the top but he didn't stay in control and thats exactly what the students want to do is get him going.  Stop saying the guy spit on her like is was battery.  He was yelling and like most of us spit came out of his mouth and the little girl told him to stop.  This is where he just didn't stay in control and that is flat wrong.

The second issue is the thought process by many that we should be defending kids like they are a 6 week old puppy that just pissed on the rug.  "They are kids, kids will be kids" this is bullshit.  These "kids" are young adults that know exactly what they are doing.  I've worked in the law and outside of the law and we have let the inmates run the asylum.  Public education needs to be treated as a priviledge and not a right. 

I have two small children at home and work every single day to teach them respect for others.  I can assure you that if either of my kids talked back to me, a teacher, or another adult like these kids do they'd recieve an ass whipping and I wouldn't apologize for it at all.  Todays parents with all their bitching about life needing to be fair, and overprotective bullshit has ruined a generation of kids.  I have tried to hire countless teens and 20 somethings and to find one worth keeping is definately rare.  They are spoiled brats who think they are owed something by society because thats what they have been taught.

It's the teachers, parents and administrators and sometimes politicians. Kids haven't changed in decades.

Cell phones and technology have, without question, changed kids.  One, nobody reads anymore.  Two, spelling has become atrocious.  Three, attention spans are nil.  Technology can certainly be used productively in the classroom, but when a kid glances at her phone every two seconds and surreptitiously sends a text, it's distracting.  Ask anybody who has been a teacher for a few decades what the biggest change has been in students, and they're likely to tell you cell phones have changed the game bigtime, and usually not for the better.

Then teachers need to change and adapt the way that they teach.

Of course that would include integrating more technology which costs money and that's not going to happen.  So teachers are pretty much effed. 

Just wait until 2014 when half the nation's schools get shut down.
