If I could stop mail I would.  For some reason people are using the P.O. to ship things now and unbelievably, the last two things that have been shipped to me have gotten lost for a period of time.  As you can imagine they are awesome at customer service too.

I've never had a package lost by the post office. My dumbass mailman sometimes gives my neighbor my regular mail, but I prefer the post office to UPS/FedEx for small packages.

I did not do that. I have great respect for the U.S. postal system. I always speak highly of mail men and the postage stamp, the tag team that provides the cheapest and best service in the world.

For every card/package you drop in the mailbox, you probably have to actually enter the post office once every 50 or so times.

Isn't the hassle of 10 minutes inside worth the overall service you get?

Who said anything about 10 minutes? I was in the post office for 30-plus.

As for the overall service, jesus, I've said it a million times: I'd pay $1 a stamp. The postage stamp is an incredible service and is still way too cheap. Maybe if they raised the price of stamps to a half dollar or 75 cents they could pay an extra clerk to work one of the four closed windows.

Seriously, four of five windows were closed — during lunch hour.

Go bleep yourself, post office!

Are postal workers not allowed to go to lunch? Sheesh!

Not at the same time.

Also, the new budget has $11 billion going to the post office, good investment IMO.

lol @ these cheap dumbasses that can't figure out why they're waiting for hours in line, having transactions refused and getting their packages lost.

Ya know how the mail gets delivered in rain, snow, etc.???  When it snowed really bad a couple weeks back I was thinking about those shitty looking trucks they drive and how there was no way the mail would get delivered during the blizzard.  I mean those trucks must have like 11" wheels, and look like they probably weigh about 800 lbs without mail in them.  Sure enough the mail came.  I was pretty surprised considering the number of SUV's, Bradley Tank's, etc. that were getting stuck.

Also, I didn't realize anyone actually went to the post office anymore (unless you're a bum and you go there to drink/pass out, i.e. the Westport post office).

FYI - when they bring you the mail, they also pick up outgoing mail as well, that is of course, if you ever actually have anything you need to mail (which I never do).  Pretty sure my wife uses the crap out of this outgoing mail service though, and I'm pretty sure Hallmark gets the best end of that deal.

One time FedEx left one of my packages with a neighbor.  It was $300 worth of school books and I had no idea which neighbor they left it with, just a last name.  My neighbor also had no idea whose package it was.  I was pretty pissed.

FedEx came into my apartment, when no one was home (obviously management office let them in), to drop off a TV I thought was for my roommate - super pissed!  :curse:

Looked at the shipping label it was addressed to me, w/ a return address of DirecTV Sweepstakes Prize.  :surprised: :surprised:

No so pissed, but still  :nono:

I am one of the A-Holes that slows up the line at the MHK post office.  I walk in there with 20-30 packages and 75% of them going overseas.  I wind up with a receipt longer than my arm most of the time.

But seriously you are right.  It is ridiculous that they hardly ever have more than two clerks working and sometimes only one!  30+ minute waits have been the norm down there for several years now.  10 years ago or so they always had four clerks at all times, but I guess they are now forced to cut back probably because of the pensions they are paying to those ones who have retired.  So my advice is to go to the Dillon's stores if you only have a domestic package and otherwise the campus post office at Dykstra Hall is another good option.  They can do delivery confirmation there for 19 cents (free if Priority Mail) and the regular post office charges 80 cents.  Go figure.

All I did was point out the post office's inefficiency to a woman in line ahead of me. Evidently, I said it too loud.

The clerk looked up, stared me down and then closed her window after the man she was assisting finally (!) decided on the book of stamps he wanted.

You're the reason the term "going postal" had to be coined.

I was at the post office last Saturday to have a package guaranteed to arrive in Denver on Monday. When I filled out the form, I checked "next-day delivery," thinking that because the mail doesn't run on Sunday, Monday would actually be a one day delivery. The lady told me that they would deliver the package on Sunday, but it would be very expensive. I told her that it didn't need to be there until Monday, anyways, and I changed it to 2 day delivery.

Boring story, but I had no idea that the post office was actually capable of delivering packages on Sunday.

Every time I've gone to the mhk post office, there is some crazy lady in Pjs and flip flops that thinks she works there or something. She just hangs out in the lobby and helps people, usually giving the clerks advice on how they could be quicker.   :dunno: whats with that?

Elvira is some old lady (whos autistic or something) that walks around the Ville and sells stuff that she bought at wal mart (like candles and soap). Hanging out at the post office sounds like something she would do

Because, as you read in that very article, the Dighton newspaper only comes out once a week.
