why are we concerned about ESPN scouts rankings? I think they're accurate for the service they provide.
They are assessing the raw abilities and physical development....that isn't exactly the same thing as performance. Read the scouting report for both Nash and Waters. I think they're accurate. But high quality programs still recruited them for what they do well.
Waters doesn't have imposing size or a gun for an arm to make every single throw...he isn't an electrifying athlete either. But his arm is solid, he's accurate, he has enough movement ability, and he's a good decision-maker. You can win just as easily with those attributes at QB as you can a big-time playmaker.
Nash is a motor guy who isn't THAT fast or dynamic of an athlete. But he'll set the edge. He'll be technically sound. He'll do his assignment. That is why some very good programs offered the kid.
You need a lot of guys like Nash and Waters and then you surround them with a few Jamone Boyd's and Marcus Hardison's.
I've said it a billion times...you win by having solid, blue-collar 3rd, 4th, and 5th year guys coupled with a few playmakers on both sides of the ball.
