If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

I love the recruiting strategy.  We go after top 10 players from states like Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Iowa who all have down programs right now.  Add in the domination of the state of Kansas plus a few transfer/JUCO guys and the class rounds out nicely.

I would love for KState to return to being the preferred destination for unknown studs from underevaluated states

who were the guys that got love late? sounds like:

allen
lee
vass
jackson

allen and lee should probably be 4 stars on all sites. vass should be a higher 3 star. it does feel like the class should be ranked higher. its ok though because we already know ksu with a top 30 class means national title aspirations.

It sure feels like almost every single player in this class has risen up the rankings as they’re evaluated more

Here are the current national rankings among the major recruiting sites for KSU. Big 12 rankings in (). Note most sites are using current Big 12 not future.

On3 - 39 (6)
247 - 35 (6) *Note their composite ranking has us at 30
rivals - 30 (7)
ESPN -38 (8)

Wow! That's the best it has been in so long, and I'm gonna believe a majority of our recruits are "underrated" as well.
We're so fortunate to have this program and coaching staff representing our university and community.

On3:
2005  32nd
2004 - 33rd
2002 - 20th

Their rankings only go back to 2002 but that is the only other top 40 classes I could find.

their juco rankings were wack back then though, so this should be our best class since probably peak DOD

Yes the classes that were truly our best came before the online services started doing their rankings. It's hard to quantify how good the recruiting actually was leading up to and during the peak of DOD. Those early 2000s classes were some of our biggest flops. I don't believe this to be the case currently.

No real way of knowing how many of these were committable offers or who may have offered some of these guys if they thought they had even the slightest chance of plucking them away from us (looking at you Beebe), but 247 lists the following P5 offers for this years class:

Kansas (9)
Iowa St (8)
Nebraska (6)
Missouri, Vandy, Pitt, Minnesota, Iowa, Wazzu (4)
Arkansas, Arizona St, Oregon St, Colorado (3)
Tennessee, Florida St, Georgia Tech, Duke, Maryland, Oklahoma St, Illinois, Michigan St, Washington, Utah (2)
Auburn, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Louisville, Wake, TCU, Oklahoma, TX Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Purdue, Oregon, Arizona, USC, Stanford, Cal, Notre Dame (1)

I’d love to see another couple of no doubter 4*s, but I’m definitely ok with this offer pool.

we are suddenly stacked at linebacker*

little worried about defensive line, although duke and a healthy matlack helps with the loss of felix.

*a bit early to say stacked but the talent is there

They're a great developmental program. He will do well there and they will find success with him. Definitely our type of player. Makes sense that if he didn't come to Manhattan, he'd end up at a school like Utah.

Is sign and place still a thing? I was of the understanding he wasn’t going to qualify.

definitely a head scratcher.

He’s been high on Utah & they’ve been going hard after home for a long time.  Before the qualifying rumors he was saying he was high on them.

it just feels like we kind of stopped recruiting him. qualifying risk is an easy answer but i have no real info to base that on.

Seems like we backed off all our RB targets. I feel like we were going hard after a few then shifted to Spivey and the JC LBs. Makes me wonder if Deuce told the coaches he’s coming back so they felt good about the RB room for next year already.

They might also feel good about bringing in portal RB(s)...

At any rate Utah recruited extremely well in 2023. If their coach sticks around they are going to be a force.

Joe Jackson did sign.
