I enjoyed AB very much so. So much in fact, that I've almost forgot how many times he overshot gaps and misread a blocking scheme. His freak athleticism helped him overcome a lot of his mistakes.

Siminou was better in almost every facet. Newman, Canty, Jeremetrious, McGraw, Chapman, Howard, Colston....all as good and meant as much to a D.

People wouldn't even throw at Newman, though. Carson Palmer was afraid of him.  He took away half of the field.

An elite MLB is great, though.  Very impactful.

I remember Craig Hodges throwing for 300+ yards to the other side of the field.  And Newman not covering Jeremy Bloom in a 1 WR formation and Bloom going 99 yards.  So yeah I think that CBs are super overrated.

An elite CB shuts down his side and allows the D to double cover and focus on the run more.  I think that is hugely important.  That said, an elite LB is better.  Can hide even more deficiencies.

Arthur got beat from time to time (rarely) by shooting the wrong gap or overrunning someone. It's just harder to see when a linebacker screws up because their assignments aren't as glaringly obvious as a corner.

There is a reason Newman was the fifth pick in the draft and a Thorpe award winner.

Again, not saying Brown wasn't amazing, he was.  But I give the slight edge to Newman.

None of what you said says anything about the relative value of a CB to a LB.  The NFL is not at all related to CFB and is pretty much irrelevant.  No one is questioning that Newman was an exceptional CB.

AB was amazing but Canty and Newman were better players.   Having a guy who could shut down the BigXII's best WRs would be awesome right now.

Could they shut them down in today's game on a consistent basis?

Im not sure, Canty is pretty old now.   Newman shut down pro WRs for a long time so I think he'd still do well in the spred era.
