Highest-rated Rivals players I could find from 1998 to 2001. The first two seemed to pan out.

#12 Ell Roberson (1999)
#39 Josh Buhl (1999)
#60 Chris Boggas (2000)
#63 Bobby Walker (1999)
#84 Ayo Saba (2001)
#93 Jerome Janet (2001)

Before 1998, you have to start cobbling together Tom Lemming's ratings and USA Today HS football player ratings to get a national picture... which I'm not going to do.

Sleepers: Three-stars that could surprise

Five-stars and four-stars get all the headlines on National Signing Day, but the bulk of prospects signed by Power Five schools will be three-stars. Here are a few picks we like out of the class of 2015 three-star group as potential break-out stars in college.

Quote
#5 Alex Delton

Delton's throwing motion isn't pretty and he spent his high school career playing soft competition, but he has plenty working in his favor. Speed is the first thing you notice about Delton, who also shined as a sprinter at the high school level. His arm is certainly strong enough, too. He's a perfect fit for Kansas State's system and will have every opportunity to succeed in Manhattan. Delton isn't likely to see the field as a true freshman, but his name is one to watch for down the road.

G.G. Robinson sticking with Louisville. Seems like it was between them and UF.

Why does everyone seem convinced Saban, Meyer, etc. don't have any flame outs or busts? They have tons of them. Go look at Alabama and Ohio St.'s classes from 5 years ago. There's several highly ranked kids who did absolutely nothing. They just are able to get more of them so there's a better chance some pan out. They're also both very good judges of talent themselves so when they get the pick of the litter, they're not going to go after someone just because a recruiting service says they should.

Now should KState be able to get some better recruits? Possibly, but as has been pointed out already, this class will likely be an improvement from the last several years and it seems like we're starting to see the benefits of our recent facility upgrades. We where in on some kids that probably wouldn't have given us more than a casual glance 5 years ago. Hopefully the new Vanier can continue to build on this.

They both run talent (Highly rated kids) that doesn't pan out to make sure they can sign a full class of 25 each.  year.

Class portably has 2X times of other BCS class that we usually have.  :dunno:  Class generally looks better, a lot of kids with better measurable than usual.

You are nuts. This class has ridiculously large gaps at critical positions but obviously the coaches are hoping to put every player listed at the rb position in a different spot to fill that.

Compared to the other classes, Half our defense was walk-ons last year because of recruiting missies. The standard is poor.

Recruiting underneath Bill's return:

2010: #63        2- 4*'s (Adam Davis & Demarcus Robinson)
2011: #69        -All 3 stars or below
2012: #59        1- 4* (Marquez Clark)----NOPE
2013: #66        2- 4*'s (Nick Ramirez & Tanner wood)...... NOPE &  :dunno:
2014: #47        2- 4*'s (Dvonta and Clinck)..... NOPE &  :dunno:
2015: #54        1- 4* (Shelley)

do this for the DOD too.
It's hard to do, because Rivals started in like 2002.

i went and looked at the 02-05 recruiting classes and every single 5* and 4* recruit we had were either total garbage or were guys I'd never heard of/never made it here.

#84 Ayo Saba (2001)
#93 Jerome Janet (2001)

Before 1998, you have to start cobbling together Tom Lemming's ratings and USA Today HS football player ratings to get a national picture... which I'm not going to do.

I lied, I kept looking into this. First thing I remembered was fans used to complain Juco studs weren't ranked by some services before Rivals.  Lemming, USA Today and Superprep were the big players before Rivals.

Our top-rated HS recruits in 1997 were Eric Gooden and Julius McMillan (top 100 players). Both totally washed out.

Our top-rated HS recruit in 1996 was Jonathan Beasley (top 100). Bishop was probably up there too, but ranked as a Juco, so I can't be sure.

So from 1996 to 2001 we had nine top-100 recruits. Here's how I'd rate their careers at KSU.
Roberson *****(5)
Buhl *****(5)
Beasley ****(4.5)
Walker ****(4.5)
Saba **(2)
Boggas (0)
Janet (0)
Gooden (0)
McMillan (0)

I'd guess this is pretty average. But it seems we've always lived off the 3-star players (and underranked Juco studs).

In 1995 we were still a building program. I didn't see any top 100 recruits in 1995, but our top-rated HS recruits in 1995 were Larry Holmes (QB, who?), Turelle Williams, Darren Howard, Pat Curry (who are these guys?), Lin Dotson, and Martez Wesley. Our top Juco recruits were Cody Lee Smith, Thad Swazer, Naeen Mills, Eric Janeau, and Jabbar Williams. (Silver Lining: Thank god our QB recruits in this class didn't work out since it led us to recruit Bishop the next year!)

Snyder not letting all his coaches recruit?

No. It's become very clear some work harder than others on the staff and can't do that in today's recruiting

I hope Klein takes over at the QB position coach, I would also love us to find a stud recruiter at DT that recruits somewhere in the south strong.

Bryce English is ready.

The DeSoto (Texas) defensive tackle is ready to see the recruiting process come to a close, and he will on Signing Day.

Bryce English is ready for Signing Day
He has narrowed his list to three options. He has the TCU Horned Frogs. He has Kansas State Wildcats. And he has SMU Mustangs.

He took official visits to Kansas State (Jan. 30) and SMU (Jan. 16), and all three of his finalists have made a strong case.

Kansas State: "Just the overall family atmosphere. Me and coach Mo, we've been talking for awhile. He didn't think he was going to be able to get me. I had all these offers and he backed off a little bit. Once he heard I was on the market he pushed on me real hard. That's one thing I liked about it. And K-State, coach Snyder coached my dad back in the day, so they have a great relationship. Going down there it just felt like a big family, and meeting up with some of the players from Texas… there were a lot of them. That was good."

TCU: "Coach Patterson he's a great defensive coach. I've been getting recruited by coach Luper for the longest I'd say. Probably about two or three years coach Luper has been on me hard. TCU is right down the street. I can get back home and go to school. It's not too close, but not too far."

SMU: "Yeah, my head coach (Claude Mathis) is over there at SMU. Coach Morris, I'm certain that program is going to take off. Coach Morris, he has a vision. He is willing to put in the time and effort and he just needs those players to put in the time and the effort for that program to turn around."

English has an idea about where he will play his college ball and he plans to let the rest of the world know at 9:30 a.m. CT via Twitter.

He has experienced the ups and downs of the recruiting process, and he is ready to begin the next phase of his journey.

"I'm very excited," English said. "I'm not alone. It's me, my family, my friends, the whole community of DeSoto is excited to see where I'm going to go. Hopefully whatever school I go to they'll be out there supporting me and watching me on TV."

English is ranked No. 30 among the nation's 2015 defensive tackles and No. 66 in the Rivals.com Texas Final Top 100 for 2015.
