DE Lonzell Gilmore maybe?

Announcing tonight per the interwebs

tech

Tech...jfc

Probably had more than two stars.  :Yuck:

He was two stars.  I'm not sure he was needed after Walker.
Good point. Some one else on here mentioned Chase Johnston playing DE or could; if that's the case the roster will look pretty salty.

Hopefully we have answers at RB, TE, and WR.

Walk-ons are the new JUCO transfers. In five years everyone will be writing articles, studying, and using Bill's walk-on scheme.

This.  As usual, Snyder is way ahead of the curve. Unfortunately, this board still stuck in 1997.  Glad Snyder isn't.

Our walk-ons keep beating out our highly-ranked juco recruits.  So, Snyder says:  "Give me more of the walk-ons."  This board says:  "Snyder is playing the wrong guys, and should keep recruiting more of the guys that can't get on the field."

i have to hand it to you. you do stick to your guns.

A tip of the cap right back at ya.  Snyder has the best record in the Big 12 since moving to round robin play four years ago, but you guys keep criticizing and forecasting doom.  If you just keep at it, the odds are high that you will eventually get a seven win season and then you can declare victory.

And then when Snyder retires we can hire somebody flashy that will win the signing day news conference.  Like Ron Prince.

snyder's best two teams since returning were led by stud juco's and five/four star players that transferred back. superior athletes. i'm not criticizing snyder, i rarely do, but i think even he would agree we are going to have some problems next year in terms of talent level alone. also i'm not sure what you mean about eventually a 7 win season will come, we had one last year. you can't compete at the highest level relying on walk ons at the skill positions.

No doubt 2012 was his best team in 2.0.  And no doubt that we had some unique talent on that team.  Brown and Harper in particular.  But, those were clearly unique circumstances, and we presumably would've gotten those guys out of high school if Snyder had been in charge.  After that, yes, I agree we had some good jucos:  Malone, Chapman, Williams,  and Davis come to mind.  But, on offense, (with the exception of Harper), the recruiting profile of that team was very much that "diamond in the rough."  Klein, Hubes, TT, Lucas, Lockett constituted our skill players, and they were not highly recruited.

Look, I don't disagree that talent is very valuable.  My point is this:  It's more complicated than just "we need to sign good guys."  Snyder knows that to win like he wants to win (championships, rings), he has to think outside the box.  We could probably get in on more highly recruited guys if we wanted to, but it seems pretty clear that we have made a decision that our time is better spent doing other things.  I am quite sure that it is a well-thought out, calculated decision that Snyder believes gives us the most chance for success.  That's why I liked the post comparing our current recruiting to the JUCO recruiting in the 90's.  Snyder is always looking for an edge, a market inefficiency.  This year, he damn near won the Big 12 (I think we would've if we had played BU in Manhattan) with a bunch of walkons. I'm guessing we can continue to have that type of success, with similar type players, so long as Snyder stays.

I think Duke and Derouen are screwing around, but GG Robinson seems like it can really happen.

Derouen is an enormous guard prospect with a Miss St. offer.

A Walk-On is an athlete not good enough for a D1 scholarship.  Saying we need more athletes not good enough for D1 scholarships is dumb.  Anybody (KU's coach) saying my priority is getting athletes not good enough for D1 scholarships is dumb.  We don't have highly ranked recruits, which is why walk-ons keep seeing the field.  This speaks to our player development (good) and to our recruiting (not good).

Dumb post. I mean, you're ignoring the cases where we have guys who legitimately deserved scholarships but didn't get covered by recruiting servixes, could pay in-state tuition, and had affluent enough families to handle the burden on their own. Still, let's not ignore that MOST of our all-time greats had glaring "flaws" that separated them from their respective positions' prototypes.
Please don't ban me, Mr. Dave.

Which two?!? I'm guessing Ertz and Hubes but maybe Delton and/or the mystery guy we signed (Taylor something I think).

I'm not ignoring them, I'm saying there is a hard ceiling on success if this is your main formula.  We will not compete for the playoffs using your formula of under exposed Kansas kids from affluent families.  Can they be a part of the overall strategy?  Sure but there is largely a reason that walk-ons are walk-ons.  Its usually not that other teams are just so much stupider than us.

I'm not predicting impending doom on our program.  At this point, I am convinced Snyder could win at least 7 games a season into eternity.  If he wants to legitimately compete for a playoff spot, he and any program needs some elite talent.

We need less misses on our scholarship players. I don't think we are close to optimal.

Everyone in the big 12 is raking in the studs and all I hear is crickets.
