Potential candidates for K-State job

AM ETKansas State Wildcats TopEmailComments10UPDATE: Kellis Robinett of KansasCity.com wrote Thursday that several of the names being tossed around for the Kansas State job can likely be dismissed.

The coaches Robinett listed, for various reasons, include Colorado's Tad Boyle, Oklahoma's Lon Kruger, Georgia's Mark Fox, Southern Miss' Larry Eustachy, ex-Oklahoma coach Kelvin Sampson and ex-Tennessee coach oscar Pearl.

Two new names emerged as possible candidates on Thursday, however, in former Duquesne coach Ron Everhart and ESPN's Doug Gottlieb. Those could be two names to watch out for in the coming days.

Bob Lutz of The Wichita Eagle provided a list on Wednesday of possible candidates to replace Frank Martin at Kansas State.

According to Lutz, the No. 1 option is Colorado coach Tad Boyle, a name that seems to come up in every job opening across the west and midwest. Boyle appears to be pretty happy in Boulder, however, and many may look at this as a lateral move.

Others on the list include the likes of Illinois State coach Tim Jankovich -- someone ESPN's Andy Katz mentioned earlier this week -- along with Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua, Oklahoma assistant Steven Henson and Georgia coach Mark Fox, who has ties to the school.

As for long shots? Lutz mentions Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett, Harvard coach Tommy Amaker, Michigan State assistant Dwayne Stephens and New Mexico coach Steve Alford.

This guy's preparing for the job.

People in Doug's position...especially smart people...don't do that just because they're "dreaming" of being a coach. There's something to this.
