My order of want (assuming Pearl isn't an option yet):

Gottlieb
Unders with AC Gottlieb
Hurricane
Burn this entire place to the ground and everyone in it

:dubious: at pearl being > than gott.

where exactly are you getting that?  :flush:

I think some people are actually just playing around on the Doug Gottlieb train because they think we are joking about him being a good coach, and they think it's funny. Look, it's not funny, guys. Gottlieb would be a great coach. He's probably the 2nd best coach we could get (Hurricane #1). Let's just not kid ourselves into thinking he'd be better than Pearl.

I'm actually still pissed Pearl isn't an option.  Can you imagine Pearl as HC with Gottlieb as assistant?  Wouldn't matter if he had show cause or not.

Oh, I know. People who are playing don't really even need to get off the train. They just need to start taking it serious because coaching searches are serious business.

You know how coaches always say they don't have time to watch/breakdown other teams?  This is not a problem for Gotts.  He can probably develop a winning game plan just from seeing the first 3 seconds of any game another team has played.

I don't want an Underwood HC/Gottlieb AC situation.  It needs to be Gottlieb HC/Unds AC if it happens.

List the pros and cons. I don't think you are thinking clearly here.

Pearl

Pros
Has coached at 3 garbage programs and had an overall winning percentage of 76%
Would get tons of media exposure
Excellent recruiter
Looks surprisingly good without a shirt
Responds to emails of random K-State fans at his current job
Has a history of decent tournament success
Is somewhat likely to actually bring Gottlieb on as an assistant

Cons
Show Cause

Gottlieb

Pros
Lots of exposure
Recruiting connections
Would assemble a pretty good staff
Extremely good looking

Cons
No coaching experience

It is close, but I just don't see how Gottlieb beats Pearl, especially without the show cause.

Honestly, I'd take either #GottWood combo. It was Doug that put it out there that he'd still be interested, so there's that.

Gottlieb and Pearl could help each other.  Bring in Pearl and Gottlieb as AC.  Gottlieb gets his coaching experience under a proven coach, all while helping Pearl recruit during the show cause.

Gottlieb moves on to become a head coach (but now with coaching experience), and Pearl takes full reigns with the ability to throw back yard BBQ's.

One downside to AC Gottlieb is that I will always want our HC to shut up a minute so that I can hear Doug talk

who do you want as the face of the program?  Underwood or Gottlieb?

the question answers itself.

Sorry if previously discussed but any guess as to how much FHCDG is making for ESPN right now?  150k?  200k?  Am I way off?

I would think you could throw him 750k and he would jump at it and then be able to bump Undy up 100k or so.......

Or if JC wants Undy as coach and Gotty as AC, I'm sure Dougy would jump for an AC job for Te400k type money

I couldn't stop dreaming about it last night....   :embarrassed:

even if gotts was AC, he would without a doubt be the face of the program in etp's eyes.

My thing with Gottlieb as an Assistant for Underwood:  In 3 years, when we are super successful, the big time programs are going to call.

KSU: Hello
UCONN: Our Coach finally died.
KSU: Sorry to hear that
UCONN: We'd like permission to speak to your coach
KSU: Alright, you can speak to Underwood
UCONN:  lol, no.  We want Gottlieb

Nobody will want Underwood.  We won't want him once Gottlieb is gone and everyone will be going for Gottlieb.  Might as well hire him for HC now

k-state needs to continue to be innovative if it wants to be a model intercollegiate athletics program. so, here's what i think john currie should do:

-he should hire gottlieb. that's a given.
-he should hire brad underwood.
-gottlieb will be hired as the head coach
-underwood will be hired as the head coach
-at the introductory press conference, schulz flips a coin. heads is gottlieb, tails is underwood.
-let's say it's gottlieb. he gets to be head coach first.
-gottlieb coaches the opener. once - or if - he suffers two straight losses, underwood becomes coach.
-once underwood loses two straight, it's back to gottlieb.

this creates an innovative incentive-based head coaching program (bonuses included!) and also gives k-state the opportunity to develop two coaches at once. that way, if when one of them bails on ksu, the replacement coach is already in waiting, and has presumably already proven himself.

BOOM!

I guess I could be receptive to the idea if he hired a very experienced assistant (Underwood?) and he got another assistant with strong AAU ties.

And Steve Dave, I don't know where you're going with this gottlieb > pearl stuff.  Pearl is like Huggins 2.0 for us.  Heck, maybe better because his infamy comes from cheating instead of being a drunk.  Proven winner.  Gottlieb is a wildcard.  I think you just have a big crush on him.

But Pearl isn't really an option I guess so it's a pointless argument.

How about if we replace Currie with Gottlieb and have him hire Larry Brown to coach?

Gottlieb could keep his gig with ESPN where he would plug us 24/7 and he would just need to show up for games and the SC nut fry.  Everybody wins.

I'm willing to be flexible.

Nobody wants Larry Brown. You are only making everyone want him even less (if that's even possible). Just stop.

If I remember correctly his latest deal inked him approx $800K.  That is my hangup with him as AC, we would have to sink quite a bit of money.

Gottlieb knows what assistant coaches make. If he is willing to be an assistant coach, he is willing to take assistant coach pay.

just curious has coach Gottlieb notice our sincere love and admiration for him yet? Currie, you can still be forgiven for your sins...MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
