As of Jan 31, Nubb was giving up an avg of 56.5 pts/g. That placed them #1 in the conference and #4 in the nation. Poor defense?
Nubb plays good D, but you can't just base that on points allowed without adjusting for pace.
Exactly, and this is where people not using good stats make really dumb talking points. Now, NU's defense is solid, I won't deny that. But, NU plays at the 2nd slowest pace (and 295th slowest in college basketball).
The best way to look at scoring defense is points per possession. Going into today's games NU gave up .99 PPP, same as KU. We gave up 1.02 PPP. Not a huge difference there, all three are good defenses.
