If someone like Oregon offers Frank $2 million/year, how does he not leave K-State?

fear noted...and its not Oregon that is offering the big bucks. The Pac-10 would be a career killer imho. The Pac-10 is a horribly bad basketball conference...particularly this year. There are ACC and Big East schools that could show some interest...particularly if we go deep in the tournament.

if Frank doesn't have a contract signed by Tax Day, then by al means, break out the pitchforks and torches.  Until then, get over it.

You ever considered that since it appears a major sticking point is reported to be the practice facility, that the AD and Frank both need the continued success of this season to continue to drum up financial support to get it built?       You don't just get millions overnight...it takes months and months of coddling and handholding major donors to ensure they pledge.   Donors that maybe weren't sold on the idea last year are now on the bandwagon, but you've obviously never tried to fundraisie major cash if you think once someone's made up their mind to donate that they just open the checkbook.   Most have an egotistical side that must be stroked and placated until THEY write the check on their terms and timeline.

A credible source says that Frank wants an additional $400,000 for his contract, and modest raises for the other coaches.  Currie cancelled construction on the basketball practice facility when it became apparent that Prince Ron wiped his a$$ with Krause/Wefald, and Currie has to find money from somewhere to pay for the facility.  I think that is making everyone impatient, including Frank.  Whatever you think of Currie, he is in a bad spot.  I doubt he ha problems with salaries for Frank and assistants (whose marginal cost is not too bad), but is struggling with finding the $$$ for the practice facility (a BIG hit financially).  I can only hope he's getting creative and finding a way to get it done.

400k+ a raise for assistants is chump change compared to the damage it will cause to lose Coach Martin. Currie and KSU can't afford NOT to pay the man.

Completely inaccurate.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

When has Frank ever beat around the bush and told us as a fan base, anything but the truth? I think he's one of the most honest and straight forward coaches I've come across. When has he given us a reason not to believe him? So for what its worth, when he says he wants to wait til the end of the season and not let this be a distraction, etc about contract negotiations, I'm sorry, but I'm going to believe him and I'm not going to get too concerned with this.

He said it on 810 shortly after KK decided to make a huge deal about it and Frank was on.

This was actually a quote given on 610:

“John Currie and I have had tremendous dialogue since the day he got here. John has been phenomenal for me. He’s been phenomenal for K-State. I want to be here. He wants me to be here. My energies are about coaching our team right now. … John and I speak all the time. We have a constant open-door policy with one another. John has been phenomenal for the people in my office.”

OK...that's the most plausible story I've come across, and it's a lot more credible than other scenarios.  If this isn't accurate, then you must know what is.  I don't think you do.

Here are some what-ifs...

What if John Currie could really give a shazbot! if this deal with Frank falls through?

I mean, he's a guy who came from prestigious Tennessee and could care less if Kstate shuns him.

Knowing that...how do you feel now knowing that Currie honestly believes that Frank will take what Kstate pays him?

Seems that if he loses Frank and gets run out of Manhattan it would probably hurt his resume significantly. If he "did everything he could to keep Frank" and K-State fans take that line and don't run him out of town he's the big winner. He builds his resume and leaves after 3 or 4 years and K-State looks like a giant bloody a-hole once again.

BTW, could we please get a "Giant Bloody A-hole" emoticon asap. TIA.

Can we drop this "run out of town" business?  Krause and Wefald weren't "run out of town" and OB is still our beloved coach.  There were more than a few people that thought Wooly was a nice guy that just had some bad luck and needed some more time.  It is unclear to me what anyone associated with the University or Athletics would have to do to get "run out of town."  Maybe if someone tried to turn the College of Ag in to a JuCo?  No clue.

I think I understand your point. But just so you know, "Run Out of Town" is a figure of speech. I'm sure you're aware that they are often used when bbs'ing about sports and such.

Was Ron Prince run out of town. Sure felt like he was. Don't think the President can't be influenced by donors if Currie fucks this up.

Lots of athletic departments have "garage sales".   It's pretty common.

Plus . . . and I'll say this for the last F_CKING TIME.    Do not believe this "the athletic department is in financial shambles" BS that MisFitzermation regularly spews on his website.   Now, I am not saying that they've got piles of money laying around, I am not saying that they aren't watching every dime . . . what am saying is that if DPPB (that's Deb Patterson's Prison Bitch) wanted to pay Frank the additional $2-$3-$4 hundred thousand he wants, it could be handled.

Dax

First post so bear with me....I'm trying to understand the financial situation.  Below is a link to the 2009 year end fiscal reports for the ath dept.  See pg 6.  Looks like the dept ran at a 2.8 mil dollar deficit this past fiscal year (without paying ron ron the additional 3 mil we might owe him).  I'm sure there's something I don't understand ($$ that doesn't have to be reported, seperate corp where donations are housed, etc).  Where is all the extra $$$ coming from to pay Frank?  Again, just trying to understand.  Thanks Dax.
