Hey guys, first time poster here, long time reader. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread, but have a question that has yet to be addressed.

Okay, so me and my buddy go to the Y here in Wichita all the time. My buddy is virtually a 5-foot-11 Thomas Gipson, complete with the ridiculous amount of sweat. I'm more of a guard type and enjoy running the pick and roll with him, and I find my defenders absolutely despise running through his picks of sweaty sweat. I have suggested that during games he take his shirt off, so defenders are even less likely to try to fight through screens. He is a nice guy and is reluctant to inflict that kind of grossness on others.

So I guess my question to you, experienced ballers of goEMAW, is it wrong to use my friend's sweatiness as an advantage or fair game?

TIA.

sweat usage is absolutely fair.

Definitely fair game.  I would just use a lot more elbow/forearm and less body guarding him.  I would hate it, so I think it is a great idea.

It's evil, but fair. My favorite thing to do when guarding someone who can shoot the 3 is yap at them and when they go up to shoot I step towards them like i'm going to bull doze them and duck underneath their shooting arm. Throws them off everytime. They hate it. Try it out you guys.

I'm not proud of this, but sometimes I'll do the elbow tap thing and basically dare them to call a foul.

i've got a habit of when i get fouled in the act of shooting, instead of saying 'foul' i say 'and 1' even if i don't make it.

pretty common.  not douchey. The point is just to say something before the other team gets a rebound. I always say "got it" which is just stupid, but I don't really give a crap.

When you miss it comes off a bit douchey, but I love the zeal. How many ball fakes do you guys use? When i'm driving one on one I love to fake a pass to a guy at the other end of the court and then miss the wide open layup after I juke the eff out of my defender. The gym always goes "Awww wow" and then "dammmmmnnnnnt".

yeah, i make sure i say something before it hits rim. a couple guys that guard me lately have been saying, "gotta make it first."

usually gets a 'hur hur hur' out of me.

You serious? It's like the go-to move for all the players who can't shoot / are afraid to shoot. It's their way of contributing. I hate it on D, because the majority of players also don't know how to call out a screen for their teammates.

"mine" is also common. "and 1" is probably second most common.

Semi-related: my favorite "shout out" is from this guy who is bound and determined to take the game winning shot every time he has the opportunity. He jacks up a deep 3 (whether a 3 is needed or not) and shouts "Let's go home" while turning to walk off the court.

Of course, it rarely goes in. Cracks me up every time.

Oh man, played with the lunch crowd at my Y today. What a bunch of pricks. Some midget was trying to post up another midget and I was on the wing (while the ball was being checked). I like to walk my guy down to about the block and then pop out to get a pass when the ball is being checked. Pretty common, right? Well, my teammates were like, "OMG DON'T BRING THE DEFENSE TO THE POST!" as I was beginning my cut away from the basket. I let it slide. Whatever. THEN THEY YELLED AT ME AGAIN AND I HAD TO TELL THEM I'M rough ridin' NOT GOING TO STAND ON THE BLOCK WHILE SOMEONE IS TRYING TO POST UP AFTER THE BALL IS CHECKED. There were like 43 people waiting so I left after we finally lost. they also do this thing where everyone runs to the chalkboard after a game is over to write their name down. I guess it goes strictly in order of chalkboard names instead of drawing numbers or shooting for next team. Goodness. Woof.

I had heard bad things about the game from my morning group, but I had to give it a shot. I may try a Tuesday or Thursday and see if fewer people are there. But yeah, not much fun. There were also a lot of really old guys and standing around. And one really big (like 6-8) fat guy that would just post up and throw it against the rim until it went in. (on my team).

my gym does this. it's terrible. when a team is on the verge of losing, the losing team members slowly make their way over to where the board is, and once the winning team makes the final basket they are all on a dead sprint to the board.

I set screens in my old man league, but doing it in a pickup game is a little "I care too much about the outcome of this meaningless game" for me.
