not trying to argue that food inspectors & food safety regs are the only, or even the most salient causes of the lack of street food and lack of good cheap food in the us.  obviously, pop. density is by far the most important.  just arguing that they don't help.

haven't really argued it, but would also argue that they aren't necessary (no tragedy of commons, no massive disparity in capital, scale, information between producers/consumers, etc.).

Agree completely.  I would be interested to see what would happen in Manhattan if the local business association and the county commission was not uniformly opposed to food trucks.  My guess is people would try to get in to the business, there would be maybe 1 or 2 that were successful, it would probably make more sense for an existing business to simply expand than for a newcomer (ala the Varsity "food truck").  But overall it would not make a big difference.

and by the presence of people who grew up in countries where this behavior isn't considered aberrant.

For ppl that think this is aberrant,  they always sell out of product.

the selling, not the buying.

Yes anyone and everyone who does this should be punched square in the face. And it has nothing to do with the song, its just dumb to do at a KSU game. :tucksshirtin  :nono:

Like I've seen news stories where in China some food vendors were using cardboard in their dumpling mix and some sort of reclaimed sewage oil to fry with.  That seems like a problem to me.  The Chinese government thought it was.  I don't trust the bulk of humanity to be free to sell food to other humans without oversight.  The thing is I recognize I am not required to buy any of it and can always just make my own food, so I wouldn't really be all that upset about no health inspectors because I have a safe, nondisgusting alternative.  Not so with FDA and EPA.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

Your ingredients are much more likely to then be disgusting unless you raise/grow it all yourself.  Imagine what would be in things like processed meat or groundbeef.

.@MichelleObama the real bigotry in America is towards people of faith. Ask your co-speaker Kathleen Sebelius about that.

Earlier he had one about Pelosi going on a no #Koch diet or something.  He hasn't given up on the #'s, just mixing it up apparently.

FDA tho.

FDA doesn't regulate meat, dude. The USDA FSIS does, and they are pretty damn strict about that stuff.

Buying packaged lunch meat from the store is actually safer than buying it from the deli, because the small delis don't have to follow the HACCP rules and stuff that larger packers are required to follow.
